The position available within the Environmental Services team at Mercy Medical Center is a full-time Evening Shift role focused on maintaining a clean, orderly, and sanitary hospital environment. This crucial role entails performing repetitive cleaning tasks according to established procedures, ensuring that all assigned hospital areas meet strict cleanliness standards. The Environmental Services team members use their skills to move furniture, equipment, and supplies efficiently within hospital departments, supporting the facility's overall operation and patient care functions. Their duties involve using multiple cleaning techniques such as the Seven-Step cleaning process, wet and dry mopping, floor stripping and buffing, carpet shampooing, and stain removal. Employees in this role handle both heavy and light housekeeping tasks, maintaining floors, walls, furniture, and sanitary fixtures to the highest standards. They receive daily assignments and use various cleaning materials, including germicidal solutions, disinfectants, buffers, vacuum cleaners, mops, and rags. The position also requires physical strength to move heavy items like beds and mattresses, handle waste, and perform strenuous cleaning duties safely. Staff ensure that patient rooms are prepared promptly by cleaning after patient dismissal, restocking supplies, and washing linens. The role demands attention to detail in inspecting cleaning quality, maintaining cleaning equipment, and following sanitation procedures, including the safe segregation of waste.

The pay range for this position is $17.00 to $21.80 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Job Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend basic written instructions in English
  • must comprehend verbal instructions and speak/reply in English
  • 3+ months of cleaning experience in a healthcare setting preferred
  • work requires analytical ability to read and understand instructions, add and subtract numbers and make comparisons
  • must be able to safely move, lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs
  • must work safely with cleaning chemicals and products
  • must be able to perform repetitive cleaning motions
  • may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as masks, gloves and gowns

Job Qualifications

  • ability to safely move, lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs

  • good analytical skills to understand instructions and make comparisons between numbers and letters

Job Duties

  • Receives cleaning assignments and requests cleaning materials and supplies
  • mixes cleaning solutions and transports service cart to work areas
  • cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, tile, fixtures and equipment with germicidal solutions
  • scours and polishes sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors
  • strips, cleans and makes beds with fresh linens after patient dismissal
  • sweeps and mops limited floor areas and vacuums carpets
  • dry and wet mops large floor areas and operates buffing equipment
  • cleans and performs routine maintenance on sanitation equipment and notifies supervisor of repair needs
  • inspects cleaned areas to ensure cleanliness
  • returns unused supplies and cleans carts and equipment
  • performs heavy-duty floor cleaning using stripping and shampooing equipment
  • washes, scrubs and disinfects walls, windows and doors
  • gathers and segregates refuse and transports to compactor or holding area
  • moves furniture and equipment using handcarts or dollies
