The Environmental Services team at Mercy Medical Center plays a critical role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation necessary for the hospital's smooth operation and the safety of its patients and staff. This full-time evening shift position involves performing repetitive cleaning tasks in accordance with established protocols to uphold the highest standards of hygiene. Responsibilities include moving furniture, equipment, and supplies within various hospital departments and executing a mix of heavy and light housekeeping duties. Employees on this team utilize the Seven-Step cleaning method and operate various floor care equipment such as electric buffers and mechanical shampooers to ensure floors, carpets, walls, and furniture are clean and sanitized. Other duties involve cleaning patient rooms, hospital offices, and other facility areas by washing and disinfecting surfaces, restocking disposable supplies, handling refuse, and conducting routine maintenance of cleaning equipment.
This role requires a high level of physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive motions like sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- must be able to read, write, and comprehend basic written and verbal instructions in English
- 3+ months of cleaning experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- ability to safely lift, move, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
- physical ability to perform repetitive motions involved in cleaning
- familiarity with personal protective equipment usage
- capacity to work evening shifts
- willingness to follow established cleaning procedures and protocols
Job Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write, and comprehend basic written and verbal instructions in English

Job Duties
- Receives cleaning assignments and requests cleaning materials and supplies
- mixes cleaning solutions and transports equipment to work areas
- cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, tile, fixtures, and equipment with germicidal solutions
- scours and polishes sinks, tubs, toilets, mirrors, and related surfaces
- strips, cleans, and makes beds with fresh linens upon patient dismissal
- sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors and carpets, including spot cleaning and floor buffing
- conducts routine maintenance on sanitation equipment and reports repair needs
- visually inspects cleaned areas to ensure cleanliness and neatness
- returns unused supplies and cleans cleaning carts and equipment
- performs heavy-duty floor cleaning by stripping, finishing, and shampooing carpets
- washes and disinfects walls, windows, and doors and removes stains as necessary
- gathers and disposes of refuse in accordance with sanitation procedures
- moves furniture and equipment using handcarts or dollies
