Employees are expected to embody these core principles in their interactions with patients, customers, and colleagues. The health system also prioritizes core Success Factors including trust-building, valuing diversity, patient and community focus, and collaboration. It operates within a culture that fosters professional growth, safety, and community wellness while maintaining high standards of hospital cleanliness and maintenance.
The role in question is designed for a dedicated individual to perform essential heavy cleaning duties under supervision, with the goal of maintaining the hospital environment in an orderly, sanitary, and appealing state for patients, personnel, and visitors. This position emphasizes meticulous attention to detail and adherence to established environmental and safety protocols. The employee will undergo classroom and on-the-job training to master cleaning procedures involving floors, carpets, upholstery, waste disposal, and special handling of operating rooms and hazardous chemicals. Responsibilities include operation of various cleaning devices and motorized equipment to ensure all hospital areas, including sensitive zones like burn and radiation treatment rooms, meet stringent cleanliness standards.
The position entails a variety of tasks, from shampooing carpets and upholstery to disinfecting bathrooms and sanitizing all patient bedding and furniture. Employees are also instrumental in waste management, including collection and disposal of regular and hazardous waste, cleaning rubbish rooms and trucks, and assisting with recycling operations. Additional duties include assisting nursing staff with moving heavy furniture and patient beds, seasonal outdoor cleaning such as snow and salt removal, changing curtains and blinds, and post-construction cleanup. Workers must be physically capable of handling heavy lifting, use ladders safely, and operate cleaning machinery efficiently.
Employment in this role is full-time with a designated shift from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., including evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. The pay rate is $19.17 per hour. While no supervisory responsibilities are attached to this role, the employee is expected to comply with all safety policies and work collaboratively with team members, including supplying support during colleagues' absences. Notably, no driving is required in this role, and it is union-affiliated under the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. This comprehensive cleaning specialist position plays a vital role in sustaining a clean, safe hospital environment that supports patient recovery and staff productivity.
