Job Description

St. Bernards Medical Center is a reputable healthcare institution committed to providing excellent medical services and patient care in a supportive and safe environment. As a well-established hospital, St. Bernards Medical Center prioritizes the well-being of patients through its cutting-edge facilities and highly skilled medical staff. The center is dedicated to fostering a collaborative atmosphere among its diverse team of healthcare professionals to ensure top-quality care and promote healing and recovery in the community it serves.

This job opportunity is for a Transporter Equipment Technician, a vital role within the hospital’s operations. The position involves executing a broad scope of duties crucial for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and smooth transport of patients and equipment within the hospital premises. The Transporter Equipment Technician greatly supports the nursing and medical staff by efficiently managing cleaning and disinfecting patient rooms, utility rooms, public areas, offices, and ancillary rooms, ensuring a sterile and comfortable environment for patients and staff alike.

Key responsibilities will also include trash removal and appropriate disposal of infectious and non-infectious waste, which aligns with the hospital’s strict hygiene and safety policies. Daily floor care maintenance—such as dusting, wet mopping, vacuuming, high and low dusting, wall washing, and cleaning of furniture, blinds, and windows—is another critical aspect of this role. The Transporter Equipment Technician ensures that all public spaces remain spotless and safe, minimizing infection risks and promoting patient well-being.

Moreover, this position demands coordination of physical bed placement and transportation of patients to and from their rooms to various testing and procedure departments. Working closely with nursing staff, physicians, and department managers, the Transporter Equipment Technician plays a crucial role in patient flow and equipment management throughout the hospital. The role includes maintaining and evaluating department equipment, collaborating with biomed staff for necessary repairs, and keeping hallways clear of equipment clutter to allow safe and unobstructed movement.

Effective communication skills are essential, as the individual will act as a liaison between different hospital units, promoting positive public relations and smooth interdepartmental cooperation. The transport duties require attentiveness, physical stamina, and a commitment to patient safety and comfort during movement within the hospital.

This is a safety-sensitive position located in a dynamic hospital environment where exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards, blood, and bodily fluids can occur. Physical fitness is important as the job involves frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, and lifting heavy loads, including up to 100 pounds and pushing or pulling equipment weighing up to 250 pounds. Normal corrected eyesight and hearing, as well as strong oral communication skills, are required to perform the role effectively.

This position will provide on-the-job training lasting from three to five days of instructions, followed by at least 30 days of supervised work experience to ensure competency. While previous experience is helpful, it is not strictly required. The Transporter Equipment Technician is expected to uphold St. Bernards Medical Center’s standards for quality, safety, and efficiency to ensure the best possible care and operational support within the hospital.
