The Environmental Services Assistant position is an essential role within this caring establishment. Reporting directly to the Environmental Services Director, the assistant is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order throughout the facility. The primary objective is to insure a sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, employees, and visitors. This role is instrumental in implementing the daily operations of the Environmental Services and Laundry Department, ensuring that the Home maintains an impeccable standard of hygiene which is crucial for the health and well-being of vulnerable individuals.

This position involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, including sanitizing furnishings, fixtures, floors, and various surfaces. The assistant plays a key part in conducting emergency cleaning, addressing spills, and other safety-related concerns promptly. Responsibilities extend to terminal cleaning duties required for preparing rooms for new residents, thereby supporting continuous care and smooth transitions within the facility. Additionally, the role involves regular auditing and quality assurance of cleaning procedures to uphold the highest facility standards.

Job Duties

  • Assists with maintenance of a clean and sanitary facility by following a comprehensive cleaning program including cleaning and sanitizing furnishings, fixtures, floors
  • cleans walls, windows, doors, ceilings, entrances, exits, horizontal surfaces, curtains, drapes, and privacy curtains
  • washes and disposes waste and trash
  • spot cleans and disinfects as needed
  • cleans movable and stationary furnishings and fixtures including dusting, spot cleaning, washing, disinfecting, sanitizing and polishing
  • changes slip covers, scarves, doilies
  • cleans ledges, shelves, and vents
  • empties, cleans, and relines waste baskets
  • straightens or re-arranges furniture as directed
  • maintains clean, stocked public and private bathrooms by washing and disinfecting fixtures, floors, walls, windows and mirrors and replenishing supplies
  • conducts emergency cleaning by properly handling and cleaning spills, slick surfaces, broken furniture or hazards
  • performs terminal cleaning duties for preparing rooms for new residents
  • assists with reporting environmental services matters to supervisor, including safety issues, equipment wear, and supply needs
  • maintains equipment and cleaning materials properly
  • ensures proper documentation of cleaning services, safety concerns, and corrective measures
  • performs quality assessment and assurance including auditing cleaning procedures
  • assists with development and updating of environmental services policies and procedures
  • assists with survey processes as directed
  • maintains and applies current skills through continuing education
  • complies with all federal, state, local laws and facility policies
  • communicates effectively in English
  • demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills
  • performs physical duties including standing, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing, walking, and exposure to medical equipment and persons with illness risk
