The role of Housekeeper/Custodian at the President's House, known as White Oaks, is a vital part of the university's effort to maintain a high standard of hospitality and care within this distinguished residence. This part-time hourly position falls under the service workers job family and is graded at compensation level 4H. Reporting to the Supervisor of Building and Grounds at White Oaks, the Housekeeper/Custodian plays a key role in preserving the cleanliness, safety, and appearance of the President's home. This includes routine cleaning duties such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors and stairs; maintaining restroom cleanliness by disinfecting showers, sinks, and grout; and ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked and available.

In addition to general housekeeping duties, this role requires attention to detail in cleaning glass surfaces, furniture, vents, and baseboards, polishing brass, silver, and glassware, and emptying and cleaning trash receptacles. Further responsibilities include laundry management, tracking linen inventory, and identifying and reporting any unsafe conditions. The Housekeeper/Custodian is also expected to maintain and operate housekeeping equipment safely, assist with errands, and occasionally provide informal tours highlighting the history of White Oaks. Interaction with guests and university occupants requires a congenial demeanor reflecting the values and hospitality of Furman University.

The role demands a high level of confidentiality given the private nature of the President's residence. Employees must be flexible, able to work independently, and capable of handling delicate antiques and collectibles with care. Physical demands include lifting and frequent movement involving reaching, stooping, kneeling, and other manual tasks, often in varying indoor and outdoor environments. Safety procedures, professional development, and effective communication with supervisors and co-workers are essential components of this position. Job Duties
