Job Description
The hiring establishment is a healthcare facility operating under the NS-LIJ Health System (NS-LIJHS). This system is recognized for delivering comprehensive medical services and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety in its environment. As a part of their Environmental Services Department, the team ensures that every area meets regulatory agency requirements including those set by The Joint Commission (JCAHO), which emphasizes the importance of sanitation in healthcare settings.
This job opportunity is available as full-time, part-time, or per diem, offering flexible scheduling that includes the possibility of working varied shifts such as nights, weekends, and holidays. The salary for this position is determined based on several factors such as location, experience, education, and internal equity, and is subject to adjustments over time. This makes the role suitable for candidates looking for either a stable full-time career or a flexible position that accommodates diverse schedules.
The role involves performing thorough cleaning duties across the facility, ensuring that areas such as patient rooms, common spaces, offices, and specialized medical areas are spotless and well-maintained. Employees are expected to follow established procedures precisely, using designated cleaning supplies and equipment properly to maintain hygiene standards. This includes cleaning beds, blinds, light fixtures, ceilings, windows, floors, and furniture, among others.
Cleaning staff members play a vital part in the smooth operation of the healthcare environment by maintaining sanitation standards that prevent the spread of infection. Responsibilities also include maintaining equipment used in cleaning, replenishing supplies like soap and paper towels, and managing waste disposal, including the handling of infectious waste according to strict safety protocols.
Additional tasks include moving furniture for cleaning or special events, organizing linen delivery, and assisting with set-up and breakdown of functions within the facility. Staff are expected to be physically capable of performing the work pressures associated with cleaning duties such as lifting, carrying, bending, and walking on stairs.
The Environmental Services Department supports the overall mission of the healthcare system by creating an environment that promotes wellness and safety for patients, staff, and visitors. For someone who is detail-oriented, dependable, and values contributing to public health, this role offers a meaningful way to make an impact in a dynamic hospital setting.
