Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year experience in a health care facility preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, and visitors
  • Ability to properly use supplies and maintain equipment
  • Ability to maintain appearance of housekeeping areas in safe, clean, and comfortable manner
  • Ability to work harmoniously with personnel
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds and liquids
  • Knowledge of health department standards

Job Duties

  • Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and established housekeeping procedures
  • Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner
  • Follow established infection control practices when performing housekeeping measures
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies
  • Clean and polish furnishing, fixtures, ledges, room heating and cooling units in resident rooms and recreational areas daily
  • Clean, wash, sanitize, and or polish bathroom fixtures
  • Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance and exit ways
  • Clean floors including sweeping, dusting, damp and wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting
  • Clean carpets through vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting
  • Clean walls and ceiling by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing, etc.
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces using proper cleaning and disinfecting solutions
  • Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators
  • Discard waste/trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liner
  • Report all hazardous conditions or equipment
  • Assure work and assignment areas are clean with equipment, tools, and supplies properly stored
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of housekeeping supplies
  • Report burned out light bulbs and other lighting issues to supervisor
  • Perform terminal cleaning procedures when a resident is discharged or transferred
  • Assure cleaning procedure schedules are followed
  • Follow fire-safety policies and procedures
  • Assist others in lifting heavy equipment and supplies as directed
  • Report all accidents and incidents
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information
  • Honor residents personal property
  • Turn in found articles to supervisor
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings
  • Keep work areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop or broom handles and unnecessary equipment
