Job Description
Advocate Health is a leading nonprofit, integrated health system in the United States, known for its commitment to clinical innovation, excellent health outcomes, and a superior consumer experience. Formed through the merger of Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health, Advocate Health serves nearly 6 million patients annually. Operating under different regional names such as Advocate Health Care in Illinois, Atrium Health in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Alabama, and Aurora Health Care in Wisconsin, this health system is nationally recognized for its expertise in various medical specialties including cardiology, neurosciences, oncology, pediatrics, rehabilitation, as well as organ transplants, burn treatments, and specialized musculoskeletal care. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, Advocate Health employs around 155,000 teammates who work across 69 hospitals and more than 1,000 care locations. It also operates one of the nation's largest graduate medical education programs with extensive residency and fellowship offerings.
The organization is deeply committed to equitable healthcare and community wellness, providing over $6 billion in annual community benefits. This dedication underscores its mission to improve the lives of the patients and communities it serves.
The Environmental Services position at Advocate Health's Aurora West Allis Medical Center is a vital role aimed at maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This part-time role offers approximately 20 hours per week, primarily scheduled during the 2nd shift from 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, including every other weekend and holidays. The pay range for this position is competitive, from $18.85 to $28.30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications, with opportunities for premium and incentive pay as applicable.
As an Environmental Services team member, the individual will be responsible for cleaning varied areas such as patient care zones, surgical units, public and private restrooms, conference rooms, lobbies, offices, elevators, and stairwells. This includes comprehensive environmental surface cleaning—ranging from ceilings and vents to walls, doors, furniture, beds, bathroom fixtures, and windows. The role also involves managing emergency spills and maintaining floor cleanliness through dusting and damp mopping of patient rooms, corridors, stairwells, and restrooms.
Additional duties include replacing cubicle and window coverings, handling the collection and proper disposal of recyclables, trash, and medical waste (including hazardous trash in compliance with infection control guidelines), and managing linens by sorting, stocking, delivering, and preparing soiled linens for transport. Environmental Services staff also support patient care by cleaning and preparing dismissal and transfer units, managing non-medical supply distribution, filling and cleaning supply dispensers, and inventorying and ordering supplies in an organized, cost-effective manner.
Physical demands require the ability to lift up to 35 pounds from floor to five feet, carry up to 20 pounds at waist height, push or pull with 50 pounds of force, and perform physical activities like bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and crawling. The role demands operation of various cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, mopping equipment, buffers, floor scrubbers, and use of ladders. Team members must be able to work on their feet for the majority of the shift while wearing protective clothing due to exposure to germicidal solutions, cleaning chemicals, infectious waste, and soiled linen.
Advocate Health supports its employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, adoption assistance, paid parental leave, retirement plans with employer match, and educational assistance programs. The organization encourages career growth and development, fostering a culture focused on teamwork, respect, and a shared commitment to quality care and safety within its facilities.
