Known for its advanced facilities and patient-centered philosophy, Avera McKennan Hospital emphasizes teamwork, respect, and continuous improvement in everything it does. The organization offers a positive workplace where employees can grow professionally while making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of others.
This job opening is for a PRN (pro re nata, or as needed) Custodian position at Avera McKennan Hospital. The role primarily involves maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in assigned hospital areas during the night shift, specifically every other Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am, with additional hours as needed. The position plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients, staff, and visitors alike. The pay range for this position is $17.50 to $21.50 per hour, with the exact rate depending on the candidate's experience.
The Custodian will be responsible for a broad range of cleaning duties including trash removal, recycling, regulated medical waste handling, and keeping patient rooms, offices, nurses' stations, lounges, hallways, bathrooms, kitchens, elevators, stairwells, and lobby areas clean and orderly. Duties such as cleaning walls, ceilings, vents, lights, baseboards, windows/glass, and floor maintenance through dusting, buffing, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, and vacuuming also form part of the responsibilities. The role may also involve moving office furniture or hospital equipment to facilitate cleaning or relocation tasks.
Candidates applying for this role must be able to perform all essential functions with adequate visual acuity and effective communication skills, including the ability to hear and distinguish speech and other sounds. The position requires commitment to Avera's mission, values, and standards, including compassion, hospitality, stewardship, and maintaining confidentiality. Working efficiently as a team member and complying with relevant safety guidelines, laws, and standards, including those established by CMS, The Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA, are also key expectations.
This position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with one to three months of related experience or training preferred. Reasonable accommodations are available to enable individuals with disabilities to perform job functions without undue hardship. Candidates who thrive in a supportive, mission-driven work environment aiming to enhance the health of their community will find this role rewarding and impactful.
