Job Description

Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is a vital organization dedicated to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for Marines, their families, and the broader Marine Corps community. As a comprehensive program, MCCS offers a variety of essential services and programs that positively impact the morale, welfare, and overall well-being of military personnel and their families. The organization operates with a collaborative and team-oriented environment that includes military personnel, civilian employees, contractors, and volunteers, all working together to maintain smooth and effective operations. MCCS emphasizes a strong commitment to service quality and support for the Marine Corps, ensuring an environment where service members and their families can thrive.

This particular opportunity is for the position of Housekeeper NA-02, located at Camp Pendleton, California. The Housekeeper role is an essential part of MCCS’s mission to provide a welcoming, safe, and clean environment for the community. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to delivering world-class customer service. Responsibilities include making beds, changing linens such as sheets, towels, and other essential bedding materials. The appointed housekeeper will be responsible for thoroughly cleaning guest rooms, which involves dusting, waxing, polishing furniture, sweeping floors, vacuuming and shampooing rugs, emptying ashtrays and wastebaskets, and sanitizing lavatories. Additionally, the role involves washing walls, windows, drapes, and blinds using ladders when necessary, as well as turning mattresses and sanitizing all fixtures and bedding with disinfectants. The housekeeper will service each room daily with consumables like soap, cups, and coffee products.

The position also occasionally requires the use of heavy industrial cleaning equipment for scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors. Tasks may also include washing and replacing Venetian blinds, cleaning ceiling fixtures, and moving heavy furniture as needed. Safety regulations and workplace standards are strictly followed, including the use of required safety equipment, observing safe work procedures, and promptly reporting any hazards or incidents to supervisors.

An important aspect of the job is to provide excellent customer service, emphasizing courtesy and positive customer interactions. This includes acknowledging customers with smiles and eye contact, communicating in a friendly and professional manner, asking questions to solve issues, and ensuring satisfaction with the quality of goods and services provided. The housekeeper is expected to report any missing or broken articles to supervisors promptly and to raise problems to higher-level management when necessary.

The work environment for this position is mostly indoors, with exposure to cleaning agents and powered equipment noise. The role demands constant physical activity such as standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting objects, occasionally up to 45 lbs independently or with assistance for heavier objects. The position also adheres strictly to established equal employment opportunity principles and the prevention of workplace harassment, supporting a diverse and respectful workplace.

To qualify for this position, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the proper care and maintenance of carpets, furniture, and the safe handling of various cleaning solutions. The role demands the ability to operate industrial cleaning machines safely and effectively and to understand and follow detailed instructions concerning cleaning procedures and safety protocols. General supervision provides guidance on routine tasks, while more complex duties receive specific instructions. The selected candidate will be part of a drug-free workplace and must comply with selective service registration requirements if applicable.

Overall, this Housekeeper position at MCCS is ideal for individuals who value discipline, attention to detail, physical work, and the chance to contribute directly to the wellbeing of the Marine Corps community. It offers the prospective employee the opportunity to work in a respected organization that places high value on integrity, professionalism, and service excellence. The role comes with comprehensive support regarding application and onboarding processes, including document submission guidelines and consideration for military spouses and veterans. MCCS ensures that applicants and employees experience a workplace free from discrimination and retaliation and provides reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities when necessary.
