The Housekeeping Assistant role at Cantex is an essential position within the housekeeping department, reporting directly to the Housekeeping Supervisor. This position plays a vital part in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the facility, directly impacting the health and well-being of patients, residents, and staff. The primary responsibilities include performing routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, window washing, vacuuming carpets, and maintaining furniture and equipment to ensure a hygienic and welcoming environment. This role is also responsible for the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment, waste disposal, and adhering to established safety protocols. The Housekeeping Assistant helps uphold organizational policies, including those related to abuse prevention and patient safety.

This position requires a strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety within the care setting. Experience in institutional housekeeping or maintenance and familiarity with floor-care equipment is considered beneficial, though not mandatory. Effective communication skills are needed as the candidate must be able to read, write, and speak English to comprehend instructions, policies, and safety guidelines accurately. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous housekeeping or custodial experience preferred
  • ability to use cleaning equipment and chemicals safely
  • good physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor
  • strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • effective communication skills
  • willingness to comply with all safety and organizational policies
  • ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in institutional housekeeping or maintenance is helpful
  • experience in the use of floor-care equipment is helpful
  • ability to read, write, and speak the English language

Job Duties

  • Cleans and sanitizes patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas on a daily basis in accordance with facility protocols
  • uses proper chemicals in proper portions
  • dust mops, wet mops, or spot-mops floors
  • empties trash containers, replaces liners, and disposes of trash properly
  • vacuums carpets as directed by supervisor
  • utilizes appropriate chemicals and equipment to wash and dry windows
  • reports repair needs to supervisor or maintenance department
  • requests needed supplies and equipment from supervisor
  • identifies and corrects safety hazards and abides by safety rules
  • enforces abuse prevention policies
  • attends weekly in-services and complies with patient care management systems
  • ensures patient and resident safety
  • performs other duties as assigned
