Job Description
Dayton Children’s - Main Campus is a leading pediatric healthcare facility dedicated to providing exceptional care and support to children and their families. As a cornerstone in the community, this hospital is committed to fostering an environment of healing and safety while upholding values such as innovation, collaboration, ownership, compassion, value creation, and safety. Dayton Children’s has established itself as a trusted institution where cutting-edge medical practices and compassionate care come together to serve the unique needs of young patients. The hospital’s focus on family-centered care ensures that each child receives not only the best medical treatment but also emotional support in a welcoming and nurturing environment.
The Environmental Services Department at Dayton Children’s - Main Campus plays a crucial role in maintaining the hospital’s commitment to safety and cleanliness. The Housekeeper II position is a full-time role within this department, designed to provide essential cleaning services while working in close proximity to patients and their families. This high-customer-service role requires an individual who is skilled not only in cleaning and sanitizing hospital environments but also in interacting professionally and compassionately with patients, visitors, and healthcare staff.
A Housekeeper II at Dayton Children’s is trained extensively in AIDET techniques—Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank you—a communication framework that helps enhance patient and family experience through clear and respectful interactions. The role demands a strong understanding of hospital values and the ability to embody these values through daily work routines. Key duties include making beds, emptying trash, wiping equipment, cleaning furniture, polishing floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning restrooms, laundering hospital linens, and performing daily inspections and inventories of housekeeping equipment.
Housekeeper IIs are also educated on the safe use of cleaning chemicals and are expected to demonstrate competency in handling these substances responsibly. By ensuring the proper usage, disposal, and adherence to safety measures, the Housekeeper II contributes significantly to maintaining a clean, safe, and infection-controlled hospital environment, which is essential to patient recovery and overall public health.
The position follows a 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM schedule on the first shift and requires availability to work every other Sunday and on rotating holidays, ensuring continuous service and cleanliness standards. The Housekeeper II role at Dayton Children’s offers individuals an opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that values respect, integrity, and professionalism, while delivering essential services that directly impact the comfort and safety of pediatric patients and their families. This role is ideal for someone looking to grow within the healthcare support services sector and who values teamwork, service excellence, and a culture of care.
