The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is currently seeking a dedicated Housekeeper I for their High Performance Work Team. This role is integral to maintaining a welcoming campus atmosphere by ensuring that all assigned areas are kept to established cleanliness and safety standards. The Housekeeper I position is designed to support daily operations through a mixture of custodial services and basic maintenance tasks, enhancing the overall appearance and functionality of campus spaces. This job directly impacts the experience of students, staff, visitors, and campus partners by providing reliable and professional services.

The role requires performing a variety of cleaning tasks including routine cleaning, project cleaning, and deep cleaning, all while responding to service requests and proactively addressing any emerging issues. Additionally, the position demands flexibility to handle unforeseen needs, emergencies, and rotating assignments to promote comprehensive cross training within the team. Foundational custodial skills are necessary, such as hard floor care, carpet maintenance, proper sanitation methods, and the ability to safely perform light maintenance duties. The Housekeeper I, High Performance Work Team position offers varied work schedules to meet departmental needs and individual candidate preferences, including options that cover early mornings, afternoon shifts, weekends, and holidays. Compensation for the role is competitive, starting at $15.50 per hour and negotiable based on experience and qualifications, aligned with UCF's pay structure and internal equity guidelines. Candidates must have completed at least the 9th grade and pass a required physical health assessment. Preference will be given to veterans and eligible spouses as per Florida statutes. Additionally, a valid Class E driver’s license is required since the position may involve traveling to various campus locations.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of 9th grade
  • Valid Class E driver’s license
  • Ability to stand for up to eight hours

Job Qualifications

  • Completion of 9th grade
  • 1+ year of previous work experience in an operational environment preferred
  • Experience performing basic maintenance tasks in a commercial or residential setting preferred
  • Familiarity with small and large tools required for essential tasks preferred
  • Experience with floor care equipment and cleaning tools preferred
  • Familiarity with work order related software preferred
  • Capacity to understand safety guidelines and use approved chemicals by Environmental Health & Safety
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with professional interaction skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Basic decision-making abilities to assess and address cleaning and maintenance needs
  • Adaptability to work under varied environmental conditions and schedules

Job Duties

  • Clean and maintain horizontal and vertical surfaces by dusting, wiping, and scrubbing furniture, walls, and equipment, including high dusting in hard-to-reach areas
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including moving and replacing furniture, and perform spot cleaning as needed
  • Sweep and mop floors (both dry and wet), including stairwells, entrances, and other flooring areas
  • Remove waste, including trash and recycling, in a timely and efficient manner
  • Clean, sanitize and restock restrooms and common-use facilities (sinks, toilets, showers, mirrors, stalls, and receptacles)
  • Apply knowledge of sanitation practices and proper use of cleaning chemicals
  • Shampoo and extract carpets and upholstered surfaces as needed
  • Perform hard floor care, including buffing and maintenance of floor finishes
  • Clean windows, entryways, and other glass surfaces
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as painting, replacing light bulbs, carpet tiles, and ceiling tiles
  • Identify and report maintenance, health, or sanitation deficiencies
  • Support inventory control and maintain organized storage/cleaning closets
  • Respond to emergencies or urgent situations (e.g., water leaks, biohazard cleanup, limited air quality issues)
  • Stand for up to eight hours and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation
  • Occasional schedule flexibility may be necessary to support university events, which may include weekends and holidays
