Job Description

Brown County is a government entity committed to providing essential public services and maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment for its residents. It operates various departments that focus on community well-being, public safety, and infrastructure maintenance. Among its many divisions, Brown County employs dedicated staff responsible for cleanliness and sanitation to ensure a hygienic and pleasant atmosphere in county facilities, including offices, community centers, and public spaces. The county values professionalism, efficiency, and safety in all its operations and offers both full-time and part-time opportunities to accommodate diverse work schedules.

The position available is for a Housekeeper, a vital role responsible for upholding cleanliness standards across multiple county facilities. This role involves a broad range of cleaning duties including vacuuming and extracting carpets, waxing and buffing floors, cleaning light fixtures, furniture, and windows, as well as sanitizing resident rooms and restrooms. The housekeeper plays a key part in waste management by collecting and disposing of waste and sanitizing garbage cans, ensuring the availability of necessary cleaning supplies at all times. This position is designed to have flexibility with both full-time and part-time schedules. Part-time employees work 20 hours per week, specifically every Thursday and Friday from 7 am to 1 pm plus every other weekend from 7 am to 3:30 pm. Full-time employees work 40 hours per week, typically from 7 am to 3:30 pm with alternating weekdays and every other weekend scheduled.

Within this role, housekeeping technicians utilize a variety of cleaning equipment and materials including floor scrubbers, disinfectants, carpet extractors, vacuums, floor machines, sewing machines for clothing labels, and computers for reporting maintenance issues. The position requires attention to detail, physical stamina, and a commitment to safety standards and infection control practices. The housekeeper’s duties extend to operating vehicles safely, climbing ladders for high cleaning tasks, arranging furniture for events, and maintaining accurate documentation related to housekeeping. The role demands effective communication skills for coordinating with other departments and residents while abiding by HIPAA and safety regulations.

Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of one year’s cleaning experience or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience to perform required duties competently. A valid Wisconsin driver’s license is mandatory due to the need for occasional vehicle operation, and candidates must successfully pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check. Knowledge of infection control, standard precautions, disinfectants, cleaning methods, and the use and maintenance of equipment is essential. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds with assistance and perform various physical activities such as bending, twisting, climbing, and standing for prolonged periods. Brown County offers a supportive work environment with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and public relations. It is also an E-Verify employer committed to legal employment practices.
