The role of Housekeeping Assistant at Cantex is vital to maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for patients, residents, and staff. This position involves performing scheduled housekeeping tasks as assigned by the Housekeeping Supervisor with a focus on sanitation and cleanliness throughout the facility. Duties include mopping, sweeping, dusting, washing windows, shampooing and vacuuming carpets, arranging furniture, and cleaning furniture, equipment, fixtures, and hardware. The Housekeeping Assistant plays a key role in infection control by cleaning and sanitizing patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas daily according to facility protocols. Attention to detail, ability to use proper cleaning chemicals and equipment, and compliance with safety rules are essential in this role.
In addition to routine cleaning tasks, the Housekeeping Assistant is responsible for emptying trash containers, replacing liners, and disposing of trash correctly. The position requires vigilance in identifying and correcting safety hazards, reporting maintenance or repair needs, and requesting supplies from supervisors to ensure uninterrupted operations. The role supports the organization’s patient care philosophy by assuring patient and resident safety during cleaning activities and following the Cantex Continuing Care Network Policy and Procedures for Abuse Prevention. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- prior experience in housekeeping or maintenance preferred
- ability to follow instructions and safety guidelines
- ability to communicate effectively in English
- ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods
- willingness to attend training and in-service sessions
- flexibility to work various shifts as needed
Job Qualifications
- Experience in institutional housekeeping or maintenance is helpful
- experience in the use of floor-care equipment is helpful
- ability to read, write, and speak the English language
- knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment use
- understanding of safety and hygiene protocols
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- good physical stamina
Job Duties
- Cleans and sanitizes patient rooms, bathrooms, and common areas on a daily basis and in accordance with facility protocols
- uses proper chemicals in proper portions
- may dust mop, wet mop, or spot-mop floors
- empties trash containers, replaces liners as appropriate and disposes of trash in proper receptacles
- vacuums carpets as directed by supervisor
- utilizes proper chemicals and equipment to wash and dry windows
- reports repair needs to supervisor or maintenance department as appropriate
- requests needed supplies and equipment from supervisor
- identifies and corrects safety hazards and abides by safety rules
- has reviewed Cantex Continuing Care Network Policy and Procedures for abuse prevention and knows the employee's responsibility to enforce it
- attends weekly in-services, understands, and complies with patient care management systems
- responsible for assuring patient/resident safety
- performs other duties and tasks as assigned
