The role of Housekeeping and Laundry Aide at Riverview Hospital is integral to supporting the facility's mission of delivering excellent healthcare through superior environmental services. This position requires dedication to cleaning and maintaining hospital areas responsibly to create a healthy setting for every patient, guest, physician, and staff member. The aide will be involved in daily housekeeping activities, including cleaning patient rooms, surgical suites, bathrooms, isolation rooms, and public areas. They’ll handle general and medical waste disposal according to infection control procedures, such as disinfecting surfaces to prevent the spread of infections.

In addition to cleaning, the aide manages linen services, ensuring clean linens are distributed and soiled linens collected timely from all departments. This involves using laundry management programs, working closely with laundry staff, and being proactive in recommending linen purchasing and inventory maintenance to meet the hospital’s needs. The role also includes responsibilities like monitoring equipment condition, reporting repair needs, and contributing to facility safety by managing waste streams, including recycling and medical waste.

Flexibility and teamwork are key in this position as the aide might be assigned various cleaning and laundry tasks depending on daily demands. The aide may set up and clean conference rooms and support floor care projects to maintain appealing carpet and floor surfaces. Additionally, the aide will be responsible for maintaining equipment and carts locked and secure when not in use to ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

This position requires a candidate who is motivated to uphold high cleanliness standards, possesses some prior cleaning experience preferably in healthcare, and has good organizational skills. Although a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, it is not mandatory. The role does not require formal certifications but values practical knowledge of infection control and cleaning procedures. The aide should demonstrate positive customer service skills, courtesy, and teamwork to support a professional and welcoming hospital environment.

Job Requirements

  • High school or equivalent preferred but not required
  • some cleaning experience, residential or commercial preferred

Job Duties

  • Performs cleaning functions and activities of the Environmental Services and Laundry Departments including project work to meet the mission of the department and hospital
  • cleans the hospital in a sanitary, productive, and attractive manner
  • provides linen to all departments as needed
  • workflow of laundry staff is steady
  • linen usage requires entered into the laundry program
  • provides quality cleaning and positive customer service to all people
  • accountable for desired results and keeps accurate and current records to meet the hospital and department mission
  • proper collection and disposal of general and medical waste
  • Infection Control practices for disinfecting all surfaces
  • proper cleaning occupied/discharged patient rooms, triage rooms and surgical suites, bathrooms, isolation rooms
  • vacuum and extract carpets, elevators, walls, windows, doors, furniture, floors, and complete dusting/cleaning of all surfaces
  • cleaning routes are performed properly and updated
  • flexible in working various assignments as needed to complete housekeeping activities each day for the assigned shift
  • trials as requested products and equipment for cleaning all surfaces in the facility
  • trains staff on necessary processes as requested by EVS Leadership
  • removes and monitors the waste stream to include regular, recycle and medical waste for a safe and cost-effective result
  • cleans and reports repair needs of existing furniture
  • requests or performs needed floor care projects to maintain a clean and pleasant appearance of carpet and hard floor surfaces
  • may perform multiple conference room set ups and cleanup activities daily
  • performs duties related to the outside laundry service to properly clean and maintain hospital linen
  • distribute clean and remove soiled linen from all areas daily
  • recommends linen purchasing and linen inventory to maintain PAR levels of linen on exchange carts
  • adopts and performs short and long term goals and objectives of the hospital and department
  • adopts and performs duties that improves the performance of the department and actively promotes quality initiatives with peers and staff
  • reports repairs and mechanical failures, keeps cart, equipment and closet clean and in good repair at all times
  • keeps the cart locked when not in use and attended at all times
  • when not in use, returns the cart and equipment to a locked EVS closet or equipment room
  • maintains Regulatory Agency Inspection readiness at all times
  • other duties as assigned
