Job Description

MCR is the third-largest hotel owner-operator in the United States, with a rich history that dates back to its founding in 2006. The company operates from multiple offices located in major cities such as New York City, Dallas, Chicago, and Richmond, Virginia, managing a portfolio valued at 5.0 billion dollars. This impressive portfolio includes 148 premium-branded hotels featuring over 22,000 guestrooms across 37 states and 106 cities. With a workforce exceeding 7,000 team members nationwide, MCR runs hotels under nine Marriott brands, eight Hilton brands, and several unflagged independent hotels. Celebrated for its innovation and excellence in the hospitality industry, MCR has received numerous accolades including recognition as one of Fast Company’s 10 Most Innovative Travel Companies of 2020. Additionally, the company has earned the Marriott Partnership Circle Award three times, the Hilton Legacy Award for Top Performer, and prestigious development and architectural awards for marquee projects like the TWA Hotel at New York’s JFK Airport.

The role of a Housekeeper at the Courtyard Downtown Norfolk, one of MCR’s premier properties, is essential to ensuring guests experience a welcoming, spotless, and comfortable environment during their stay. This position focuses on maintaining immaculate cleanliness and high hospitality standards throughout guest rooms, hallways, and public areas. Housekeepers are entrusted with pre-cleaning tasks including stocking supplies and tools on their assigned carts, participating in daily stand-up meetings, and assisting with linen handling in the housekeeping laundry. The core responsibilities involve thoroughly cleaning and restocking rooms assigned per shift and contributing to additional cleaning projects such as deep cleaning and maintenance of storage and public spaces.

Successful Housekeepers understand the importance of guest relations by greeting guests warmly and using their names whenever possible to foster a personalized hospitality experience. They work with a sense of urgency and a friendly attitude, even while performing physical cleaning duties. As part of a collaborative team, they uphold high standards of cleanliness, product consistency, and quality across the hotel, adhering to checklists and completing shift handover reports precisely to ensure smooth operations. Adherence to appearance standards by wearing clean, approved uniforms and maintaining professional grooming is also a key aspect of the role.

This position demands physical stamina and the ability to perform repetitive tasks such as stooping, climbing, balancing, kneeling, crawling, standing for extended periods, walking long distances, and lifting housekeeping items like linens and vacuums. Candidates must be capable of working under pressure while maintaining positive communication and conflict resolution skills. The Housekeeper role at MCR offers opportunities for career advancement and benefits including hotel discounts, weekly pay, paid time off, retirement plans, referral bonuses, and health, dental, and vision insurance eligibility after 30 days of full-time employment. This role requires a schedule flexibility that includes availability for evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, supporting the dynamic operational needs of the hotel industry.
