Job Description
The Peninsula Jewish Community Center (PJCC) was founded in 1948 by a dedicated group of Jewish community members with the goal of creating a place of compassion and unity for residents in San Mateo County. Originally housed in a rented home in Burlingame, the center quickly became a focal point for local families who sought a welcoming environment that would support community growth and engagement. As the surrounding population expanded, so did the needs of the membership, prompting a series of expansions that saw the PJCC move first to a storefront in San Carlos and later, in 1963, to a spacious 4+ acre facility nestled in the Belmont hills. This larger venue allowed the PJCC to broaden its impact and continue serving as a vital community hub for over four decades. Today, the PJCC is part of a larger network comprising over 250 Jewish Community Centers across North America, including seventeen located throughout California. While each JCC is uniquely tailored to its local community, they collectively embrace a mission to provide life-enriching programs and services grounded in strong values and proud traditions.
The Housekeeper role at PJCC is essential to maintaining the cleanliness and safety standards of the facility, supporting a welcoming atmosphere for all members and staff. This full-time position involves a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties designed to ensure sparkling, hygienic spaces throughout the Center's classrooms, fitness areas, locker rooms, and common spaces. The Housekeeper will be responsible for disinfecting surfaces, cleaning bathrooms and showers, wiping down equipment used in fitness and educational programs, as well as managing laundry tasks including towel folding and distribution. Coordination with facility management and other staff members is critical to ensuring high standards are consistently met. Candidates should expect dynamic and physically engaging work conditions, as well as the opportunity to contribute to the positive daily experience of PJCC members. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in housekeeping or custodial work preferred
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Ability to work effectively in a noisy environment with exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, and unpleasant odors
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining cleanliness standards
- Good communication skills
- Capacity to collaborate with diverse teams
Job Qualifications
- Maintain a professional presence
- Ability to communicate with fellow staff as well as members in a clear and professional way
- Collaborate with other departments’ staff when working on activities, tasks, events, etc.
Job Duties
- Disinfecting all fitness and classroom equipment and surfaces throughout the facility
- Keep locker rooms and related areas (e.g., restrooms, sinks, floors, showers, and saunas) spotless and orderly at all times
- Disinfecting and clean classrooms and working and coordinating with teachers and Facilities Workers
- Laundry and towel folding and distribution
- Maintain a spotless environment throughout facilities
- Report any broken equipment, dispensers or lighting to Facilities Manager
- Other duties, as needed and as shown in Description
