Job Description
Indian Health Council, Inc. (IHC) has been a beacon of compassionate and high-quality healthcare services since 1970, dedicated to serving the nine Federally recognized American Indian tribes located in north San Diego County. As a reputable healthcare organization with over 200 employees operating across two clinic sites, IHC exemplifies a deep commitment to culturally responsive care that respects and reflects the diverse community it serves. IHC’s integrated services encompass a broad spectrum of healthcare, including medical, dental, behavioral health, pharmacy, and social services, ensuring a holistic approach to community health. They also participate actively in community-based participatory research programs, proudly holding the distinction as a Native American Research Center of Health (NARCH), and are accredited as an ambulatory health care center by AAAHC, underscoring their dedication to excellence and compliance with rigorous healthcare standards.
At IHC, the philosophy centers on patient empowerment and holistic care. This unique approach integrates physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of health and well-being, fostering an environment where patients are equipped with the knowledge and support to achieve their own healthcare goals. The organization not only values the impact its employees make on the community but also provides robust benefits designed to support and reward staff. These benefits include PPO medical, dental, and vision insurance with low employee contributions, company-paid life and disability insurance, malpractice coverage for providers, a 403B retirement plan with company matching, generous paid time off and sick leave, paid holidays, jury service leave, bereavement leave, and reimbursement for professional licenses and certifications. Moreover, IHC’s location qualifies for state and federal loan repayment programs reflective of its designation as a high-need provider area.
The position of Housekeeper at IHC is an essential part-time, non-exempt role reporting directly to the Housekeeping Manager. Scheduled Monday through Friday from 4:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the Housekeeper plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment within the facility. This role involves performing routine cleaning and maintenance across multiple clinical and administrative areas, ensuring all patient and staff spaces meet high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The Housekeeper utilizes approved cleaning chemicals and equipment, follows all safety protocols including infection control and universal precautions, and is committed to supporting a safe workplace by identifying hazards and following established safety data sheets and procedures. This position demands reliability in following work schedules, the ability to work independently, and a strong commitment to upholding the organization’s quality and safety standards.
By filling this role, the Housekeeper contributes directly to the overall patient experience and the smooth operation of the health facility. This position requires a high school diploma or GED preferred but will accept equivalent related experience, a minimum of 6 months to 1 year of housekeeping or custodial experience—preferably in a healthcare setting—and proficiency with standard housekeeping tools and safety practices. The role also involves some use of productivity software and organizational systems for training and compliance tracking. Working onsite, the Housekeeper must be physically capable of duties involving lifting up to 25 pounds and standing for extended periods and must maintain current CPR certification. This role offers a competitive salary range of $17.51 to $19.21 per hour, plus a $1 night differential, providing a meaningful opportunity for individuals passionate about contributing to the health and wellness of tribal communities to join a respected Indigenous healthcare leader.
