Job Description

The hiring organization is a hospital facility that values maintaining a clean and safe environment for its staff, patients, and visitors. This facility operates continuously throughout the year, 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week, ensuring comprehensive care and services are always available. Upholding high standards of cleanliness and upkeep is essential to the hospital's reputation and operational excellence. Cleanliness not only impacts the aesthetic appeal of the institution but also plays a critical role in preventing infections and promoting health and safety across the premises.

This role of Housekeeper in the Facilities department is pivotal in ensuring the hospital's environments are spotless, welcoming, and hygienic at all times. As a Housekeeping Assistant, reporting directly to the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for various cleaning and maintenance duties that protect and uphold the facility's standards. The position is classified under non-exempt hourly employment, offering both full-time and part-time opportunities with shifts primarily in the evening hours from 1 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., alongside training that occurs during daytime hours.

Being a Housekeeper in a hospital setup requires more than just basic cleaning skills; it demands attention to detail, diligence, physical stamina, and a conscientious approach towards handling cleaning chemicals and equipment safely. You will be expected to prepare spaces for the next day by maintaining cleanliness through trash removal, furniture tidying, dusting, and floor care including sweeping, mopping, and carpet cleaning. Restoring and sanitizing washrooms by cleaning toilets and sinks, restocking essential disposables such as soap and paper towels, and wiping mirrors and windows will also fall under your responsibilities.

Beyond interior upkeep, the role involves maintaining the external premises, which includes window washing, garbage collection, and cleaning entrances, ensuring the outside environment of the hospital complements the pristine interiors. You will play a part in custodial functions such as shoveling snow, which requires occasional lifting and moving of heavy items like chairs, demanding both physical strength and safety focus.

Additional duties involve the upkeep of laundry services using commercial washers and dryers and operating advanced cleaning equipment such as floor auto-scrubbers to sanitize floors thoroughly. You will be required to report any damages or maintenance issues promptly to the Facilities Manager, ensuring swift attention to facility repairs and safety hazards.

Candidates for this position are preferably high school graduates but those with proven experience in similar roles such as custodian, janitor, or maintenance assistant are strongly considered. Understanding industrial cleaning appliances and their maintenance, safe chemical disposal, and basic landscaping knowledge will benefit candidates and contribute to their success.

This role suits individuals with a keen eye for detail, strong work ethic, and the physical ability to perform various demanding tasks. The hospital’s commitment to providing a clean, safe, and welcoming environment makes this housekeeping position integral to its ongoing success and community trust. The role offers growth within the Facilities department and the chance to work in a vital support function that directly impacts the hospital’s operational quality and reputation.
