Job Description
This position is hosted by SCAD, the Savannah College of Art and Design, a distinguished university known for fostering creative talents and providing top-tier educational experiences to students globally. SCAD’s commitment to excellence extends beyond academics to maintaining high standards in campus facilities and services. The university environment demands a team of dedicated staff who are not only skilled in their respective roles but also align with the institution's values of professionalism, confidentiality, and hospitality. SCAD continuously strives to provide a safe, welcoming, and healthy setting for its students, employees, and visitors, making every role critical to the campus experience.
The role of a housekeeper at SCAD is pivotal to upholding this environment. As a housekeeper, you will be entrusted with performing comprehensive cleaning and maintenance services across a variety of campus locations, including kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, guest rooms, laundry and storage rooms, offices, and common areas. Your duties will encompass ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and sanitary conditions of these spaces, directly impacting the well-being and satisfaction of employees, students, and guests. This position requires a meticulous approach to tasks such as cleaning floors, dusting surfaces, laundering towels, emptying trash, and making beds, coupled with an attentive attitude toward guest interactions by greeting visitors warmly and responding promptly to their needs.
Moreover, the role involves inventory management of cleaning and janitorial supplies, maintaining organized storage areas, and ensuring that equipment such as washing machines, dryers, pressers, and steam cleaners are well maintained and properly stored after each shift. Attention to detail is critical as housekeepers follow daily housekeeping checklists, report any property damage or repair needs, and comply with SCAD and OSHA safety policies to guarantee a secure working and learning environment.
Teamwork is an integral part of this position, as you will collaborate with other housekeepers to ensure all cleaning operations run efficiently and repair issues are communicated and resolved swiftly. Maintaining confidentiality and professional appearance at all times, while adhering strictly to SCAD’s guest possessions and privacy policies, is mandatory. This position offers a unique chance to be part of an educational institution that values professionalism and excellence, with the flexibility to work various schedules, including evenings and weekends if needed.
SCAD values experienced candidates, ideally those with a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and at least two years of relevant experience or training. Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s license are essential for fulfilling the duties effectively. Preferred qualifications include prior experience in housekeeping or environmental services, further enhancing your ability to perform in this role successfully. Given the dynamic nature of university operations, the work schedule typically runs Sunday through Saturday, with most offices open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, though shifts may vary to meet business needs. SCAD provides reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the job satisfactorily. This role stands as a key contributor to the comfort, safety, and overall positive experience of the SCAD community and its guests, emphasizing operational excellence and customer service in every task.
