Job Description
The City of Omaha, a vibrant and growing municipality located in Nebraska, is recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality public services to its residents. As a local government entity, the City operates various facilities including offices, community centers, and public buildings that require ongoing maintenance and custodial services to ensure safe, clean, and welcoming environments for the public and city employees. Known for its inclusive and equal opportunity employment policies, the City of Omaha values diversity and seeks individuals who are dedicated to contributing positively to their community through dependable service roles.
The position available is a part-time, seasonal Custodian role offering $20.00+ per hour. This role is fundamental to maintaining cleanliness and the general upkeep of city-owned buildings and grounds. Duties are routine but crucial, focusing on a wide range of custodial tasks designed to meet cleanliness standards and support the daily operations of city facilities. The custodian will be responsible for routine cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, waxing, and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning walls, windows, venetian blinds, and water fountains, as well as polishing metal and wood surfaces to maintain an appealing and professional appearance throughout the facility.
Additionally, custodians will be tasked with maintaining restroom cleanliness, restocking supplies, emptying waste receptacles, and performing light maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs and cleaning or replacing furnace and air conditioner filters. The role extends beyond indoor maintenance to include outdoor duties such as picking up debris around facility grounds and spreading salt on sidewalks during icy conditions to ensure safety. Organizational duties such as inventory management and maintaining tidy storage areas for supplies are also integral to this position.
This role requires a person capable of physical work including frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and the ability to exert moderate physical effort in carrying out daily activities. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and may need a valid motor vehicle operator's license if assigned to multiple locations. The City of Omaha emphasizes safety and dependability in its custodial staff and expects incumbents to work under direct supervision while demonstrating the ability to follow instructions and perform repetitive tasks independently.
Though the position is part-time and seasonal without typical benefits, it offers a competitive wage and an opportunity to be part of a respected municipal team. This role is open to any qualified applicants who meet the job requirements and are motivated to contribute to the upkeep and smooth operation of the City’s public facilities. The City of Omaha maintains high employment standards including background checks and requires proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the City’s online application platform, ensuring all required documents are submitted timely and completely.
