Job Description

The hiring establishment is a government-affiliated Environmental Services (Housekeeping) Department known for maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in facility management. This organization is committed to delivering a sanitary and safe environment for its employees, visitors, and the general public by ensuring all facilities are cleaned and disinfected according to stringent guidelines and best practices. As part of this commitment, the department conducts daily cleaning duties and special cleaning projects adhering to the AHE (Association for the Healthcare Environment) standard procedures. This approach ensures that the overall facility environment is consistently maintained at optimal levels of cleanliness, enhancing both the safety and visual appeal of all operational areas.

The role at hand is that of a Custodian or Environmental Services Technician dedicated to performing essential cleaning responsibilities within various building environments. This includes cleaning and disinfecting rooms, restrooms, offices, and common areas with meticulous attention to detail. The position involves routine tasks such as collecting and disposing of regular and recyclable trash, replenishing essential hygiene supplies like hand soap and sanitizers, and maintaining floors using microfiber dust mopping and wet mopping techniques with disinfectants. This job requires handling cleaning chemicals responsibly and according to applicable regulations, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure the safety of both the employee and others within the facility.

Candidates for this role will engage in dusting various surfaces including furniture, walls, fixtures, air vents, handrails, blinds, and windows, using techniques aligned with established operating procedures. They may also be responsible for polishing and spot-cleaning to maintain a consistently presentable and germ-free environment. Reporting structural or maintenance needs to supervisors forms an essential part of the job, ensuring any issues that may impact cleanliness or safety are promptly addressed.

Ideal applicants will often have custodial experience in government or hospitality environments and display strong written and oral communication skills, particularly in English, to comprehend and follow detailed operational instructions effectively. The role demands considerable physical stamina due to continuous movement, frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. It involves routine exposure to chemicals such as cleaning solutions, necessitating a firm understanding of safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment. Additionally, work shifts may vary, requiring flexibility in scheduling.

This employment opportunity offers a chance to contribute to public health and safety by ensuring the upkeep of clean, hygienic facilities. Working in a drug-free environment with mandatory pre-employment substance testing, this role underscores the organization's commitment to maintaining high standards of workplace conduct and safety protocols. As needs evolve, job responsibilities may be adjusted to align with organizational requirements, providing room for skills development and growth within the environmental services sector.
