Job Description

THOM Thomas Hospitals is a dedicated healthcare establishment operating under the West Virginia University Health System (WVUHS), committed to providing exceptional medical and support services within its community. Located at 4605 Maccorkle Ave SW in South Charleston, West Virginia, the hospital complex is part of a broader network known for its emphasis on quality patient care, professional growth, and community well-being. THOM Thomas Hospitals operates under the principles of equality and inclusiveness, strictly adhering to all federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws. The institution prides itself on fostering a supportive work environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive without fear of discrimination in any part of their employment experience.

This particular role within the Environmental Services department plays a crucial function in maintaining the hygiene and cleanliness standards vital to a healthcare setting. As an Environmental Services team member, you will be responsible for performing various cleaning duties to ensure that patient rooms, exam rooms, surgical and procedure areas, public spaces, offices, and restrooms meet stringent cleanliness and sanitation criteria. This role is classified as non-exempt, requiring a 40-hour workweek aligned with hospital operational needs, ensuring that the facility stays up to the highest standards at all times. The position is designed for individuals who are meticulous, able to work independently as well as part of a team, and possess a strong commitment to safety and sanitation regulations.

In this role, you will be expected to routinely inspect assigned areas for cleanliness and functional upkeep, report any issues to supervisory staff promptly, and replenish necessary supplies like paper towels, toilet paper, and soap to create a comfortable and hygienic environment for patients and staff alike. The job demands physical stamina and the ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment safely, including vacuum cleaners, buffers, and autoscrubbers. Safeguarding patient and staff health is paramount; hence adherence to safety standards, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and comprehensive knowledge of cleaning chemicals and procedures are essential.

Furthermore, those employed in this position will complete annual specialized training to uphold any required accreditation standards the facility meets, ensuring their skills and knowledge remain current with healthcare industry expectations. Working in healthcare environmental services also means frequent exposure to unique challenges such as communicable diseases and bodily fluids, which requires a resilient and dedicated individual committed to maintaining a safe, clean environment for all hospital occupants.

Overall, this opportunity at THOM Thomas Hospitals is ideal for candidates seeking a stable and rewarding career in environmental services within a respected healthcare system that values employee contribution, offers continuous learning, and enforces equal opportunity employment practices.
