Job Description

The YMCA is a well-established nonprofit organization committed to fostering community well-being through health, wellness, and social programs. With locations nationwide, it offers comprehensive facilities that include fitness centers, pools, gymnasiums, and meeting rooms designed to serve members of all ages and backgrounds. The YMCA emphasizes creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment, making it one of the most trusted community-centered organizations in the country. Known for its strong commitment to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, the YMCA continually strives to improve its facilities and services to meet the evolving needs of its members and the community it serves. The YMCA provides flexible work schedules and competitive compensation, with opportunities for growth and professional development within the organization.

The Housekeeper role at the YMCA is pivotal in maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the facility, ensuring member satisfaction and safety. Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director, the Housekeeper is responsible for a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks that keep the facility operational and attractive. This role includes routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, and maintaining hygienic restroom facilities, along with specialized cleaning of floors, carpets, tiled areas, windows, vents, and fans. In addition to indoor maintenance, the Housekeeper also manages outdoor cleanliness, including emptying trash receptacles and maintaining the parking lot and sidewalks. This position requires attention to detail in replenishing essential supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper to uphold high sanitation standards.

Daytime and late evening shifts are available, with schedules that may vary based on the YMCA’s operational needs, events, or special projects. This flexibility makes the position suitable for individuals seeking varied work hours. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of six months of housekeeping experience and be familiar with cleaning products, equipment, and basic maintenance procedures. Physical strength and agility are necessary to perform essential duties effectively. The role also demands strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact courteously with members from diverse backgrounds and handle challenging situations calmly.

Importantly, the Housekeeper must adhere strictly to safety protocols, including proper use of cleaning chemicals guided by labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Preventative maintenance routines are integral to the job, ensuring all equipment functions optimally and the facility remains in excellent condition. This position offers an opportunity to contribute actively to the health and safety environment of a respected community institution while developing skills in facility management and customer service.
