Job Description
Moonlight Amphitheatre and AVO Playhouse are prominent performing arts venues dedicated to providing exceptional entertainment experiences to their communities. Known for their rich history and vibrant performance schedules, these venues host a variety of live events including theatrical productions, concerts, graduations, special events, and diverse rental functions. They are committed to creating an enjoyable and safe environment for audiences, performers, and staff, emphasizing professionalism and high standards in all aspects of venue management. Both venues attract a wide range of audiences and performers, requiring meticulous planning and coordination during event nights to ensure smooth operations.
The House Manager role at Moonlight Amphitheatre and AVO Playhouse is vital in maintaining the overall operation, public relations, and crowd control during performance nights, previews, and special events. Under the direction of the Ticket Office Manager, the House Manager oversees the Front of House staff and serves as the key point of contact between the audience and the performance production teams. This position requires a leader who can effectively communicate with Amphitheatre Attendants, Backstage Parking Attendants, Shuttle Bus Drivers, Volunteer Ushers, and Stage Management to uphold safety, efficiency, and superior customer service.
The responsibilities of the House Manager include supervising the setup and opening of venue gates, ensuring cleanliness and safety of facilities, directing the Amphitheatre Attendant briefing, and assigning roles to staff members. The House Manager acts as a mediator during disputes, enforces house rules firmly and fairly, handles emergency situations alongside Stage Management, and liaises with emergency personnel and law enforcement if necessary. Timely communication and problem-solving capabilities are critical as this role ensures that performances begin on schedule and patrons receive assistance and information as needed.
This position also involves detailed administrative duties such as completion of nightly House Manager Reports, Accident Reports, and managing staff hours including breaks and release times. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry items up to 20 pounds and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on seasonal programming needs. The House Manager is expected to wear prescribed standard apparel as per the Recreation and Community Services Department guidelines.
Employment at these venues offers a dynamic and engaging environment for individuals passionate about live entertainment and guest services. The role requires dedication, a diplomatic approach to conflict resolution, and the ability to maintain a calm and authoritative presence in crowded and sometimes high-pressure situations. Candidates for this role will undergo a selection process including application review, a pre-employment drug test, and live scan fingerprinting, all funded by the city. This ensures that only the most qualified and reliable professionals join the team, maintaining the high standards synonymous with Moonlight Amphitheatre and AVO Playhouse.
