Job Description

Moonlight Amphitheatre and AVO Playhouse are prominent performing arts venues that host a diverse range of events including concerts, theatrical performances, special events, and community gatherings such as graduations and rentals. These venues pride themselves on providing high-quality live entertainment to the public and fostering a welcoming and safe environment for audiences of all ages. Both establishments serve as cultural hubs within their communities, offering a rich array of performances that attract visitors and residents alike. Managed by the city's Recreation and Community Services Department, these venues emphasize professional operations, public engagement, and safety on every event night.

The House Manager position at Moonlight Amphitheatre and/or AVO Playhouse plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of performances and events. Reporting directly to the Ticket Office Manager, the House Manager is charged with overseeing all aspects of the venue's operations on performance nights, preview nights, special events, concerts, graduations, and other rentals. This role entails managing various front-of-house staff including Amphitheatre Attendants and Backstage Parking Attendants while also coordinating efforts with Shuttle Bus Drivers and Volunteer Ushers. The House Manager is essential in creating a positive patron experience by handling public relations, crowd control, problem resolution, and ensuring safety throughout the venue.

In this leadership role, the House Manager begins preparations ahead of showtime by unlocking essential facility areas such as restrooms, entrance gates, and lawn chair storage, followed by conducting briefings with Amphitheatre Attendants and assigning their positions. Acting as a liaison between Front of House Staff and Stage Management, the House Manager facilitates communication to ensure performances run seamlessly and on schedule. The position requires handling a spectrum of responsibilities including making public announcements, enforcing house rules, mediating disputes, operating house lights, and responding promptly to patron inquiries. Emergency preparedness is also a critical component of the job, requiring the House Manager to take charge alongside Stage Management during emergencies to maintain public safety, which may include contacting emergency services or law enforcement if needed.

Additional duties include completing nightly reports such as the House Manager Report and any Accident Reports, monitoring staff hours, managing breaks, and ensuring that staff members are released on time. The House Manager’s role requires excellent leadership abilities, strong communication skills, crisis management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of employees and volunteers. A flexible schedule is necessary, often including evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the event calendar.

This position offers a rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about live entertainment and customer service within a community-centered environment. The role requires a balance of operational oversight, staff supervision, patron interaction, and emergency response readiness, all contributing to the successful delivery of memorable events. Candidates with prior theatre or event house management experience are preferred, along with those who possess CPR/First Aid certification. The employment type is typically part-time or seasonal with competitive compensation aligned with city pay scales. Benefits include workers' compensation insurance, retirement contribution plans, and the chance to work in dynamic, cultural settings that enrich the community.
