The position of Hourly Assistant General Manager (SAM) at YUM! Brands is a critical role supporting the day-to-day operations of an assigned restaurant. This role involves supporting the Restaurant General Manager in achieving operational goals including sales building, inventory management, labor controls, quality assurance in product and service, and sanitation standards. The SAM plays an essential role in managing the staff by recruiting, training, motivating, and conducting performance evaluations to foster a high-performing team culture. This role demands a strong focus on leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, alongside a commitment to maintaining excellent service and compliance with health and safety regulations.

As a developmental role, the Hourly Assistant General Manager position serves as a pathway to becoming a Restaurant General Manager. The SAM will gain hands-on experience and mentorship in all aspects of restaurant management, including resource management, financial controls, associate development, and succession planning. This position requires adaptability, resilience, and a proactive attitude to manage shifting priorities and lead through change effectively.

The work environment is fast-paced and physically demanding, requiring the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, perform repetitive motions, and adapt to extended hours based on business needs. Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of six months as a Shift Manager or one year in a leadership role in the restaurant, hospitality or retail industry with responsibility for direct reports
  • Ability to lift, move or carry up to 75 pounds
  • Availability to work 50 plus hours per week with flexible days and hours
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, twisting, kneeling, crouching, stooping and crawling
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for off-site meetings

Job Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of six months as a Shift Manager or one year in a leadership role in the restaurant, hospitality or retail industry with responsibility for direct reports

Job Duties

  • Support the Restaurant General Manager with the responsibility and management of all associates
  • Maintain a high energy attitude to motivate associates and satisfy guest needs
  • Ensure food, beverage and service quality meet or exceed standards
  • Recruit, interview, hire and conduct performance appraisals for associates
  • Assist with development and succession planning for associates
  • Provide disciplinary action for associates and terminations, when applicable
  • Perform duties such as preparation and submission of all required paperwork, follow cash handling procedures, maintain and control restaurant assets, manage inventories of food, beverage and small wares, ensure compliance with all local, state and federal laws as well as company policies
  • Facilitate safe working behaviors and ensure a safe work and customer environment
  • Perform other duties as needed
