Job Description

McMenamins is a renowned hospitality company known for its unique combination of pubs, breweries, historic hotels, and entertainment venues. With a rich history and commitment to community engagement, the company provides guests with memorable experiences through exceptional food, drink, and live entertainment. As a leader in the hospitality industry, McMenamins boasts a network of establishments primarily across the Pacific Northwest, dedicated to preserving historic properties and fostering vibrant social spaces. Their focus on quality craft beverages and diverse events makes them a celebrated destination for locals and travelers alike.

The Pub Assistant-Assistant Manager (AAM) role at McMenamins is a dynamic position integral to the smooth daily operations of their pubs. Reporting directly to the Pub Manager, Pub Assistant Manager, General Manager, and District Manager, this hourly non-exempt role offers an opportunity to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. The AAM assists with all facets of pub operations including customer service, staff supervision, administrative duties, and opening and closing procedures. This position requires an individual who thrives multitasking amid high-volume activity and possesses a strong commitment to delivering excellent service.

As a Pub Assistant-Assistant Manager, you will act as a key support leader on the floor, often serving as the host to ensure seamless and efficient shift management. Responsibilities span from assigning server sections and handling food and beverage orders to cashiering and maintaining clean and organized work areas. You will play a critical role in labor regulation, overseeing side work, training new staff, and addressing both customer and personnel issues as they arise. This position demands a hands-on approach, including working indoors and outdoors seasonally, as well as the ability to manage high physical demands such as frequent walking, stair climbing, lifting, and repetitive movements.

An essential aspect of this role is fostering positive customer relationships, ensuring each guest receives attentive and personalized service that meets their expectations. The AAM must be proactive in resolving problems and capable of working independently or collaboratively within a team. Additionally, adherence to safety protocols and company policies is paramount, alongside maintaining up-to-date knowledge of McMenamins’ products, history, and events. This role is designed not only to support the Pub Manager but also to enhance the overall guest experience through leadership, operational excellence, and enthusiasm for the brand.

For candidates interested in hospitality management and operations, this role offers a comprehensive onsite leadership experience with room for professional growth. While previous supervisory experience is preferred, it is not required, making it an excellent entry or advancement opportunity for individuals passionate about the food and beverage industry. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary, as shifts may include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays to meet business needs. Additionally, possessing a strong knowledge of wine, ales, and spirits is a crucial component of the position, ensuring knowledgeable service to guests.

Working at McMenamins as a Pub Assistant-Assistant Manager means joining a company that values diversity, positivity, and a dedication to fun and excellent service. The physical demands are significant and require stamina and resilience, but the role rewards with a vibrant work environment and the satisfaction of creating memorable guest experiences. If you are someone who thrives in a deadline-driven, customer-oriented setting and desire to grow within a respected hospitality brand, this opportunity offers a compelling career pathway.
