Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest USA-flagged cruise line in the United States, specializing in intimate, small-ship cruising experiences. Operating solely within U.S. waters, the company boasts a fleet of vessels with a capacity of no more than 200 passengers each, ensuring personalized service and exclusive itineraries. Known for its commitment to excellence and a strong sense of patriotism, American Cruise Lines offers guests the opportunity to explore scenic and culturally rich regions across America while onboard some of the finest ships in the nation. The company’s core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit guide every aspect of its operation, fostering a workplace culture that emphasizes service, teamwork, and the sharing of America’s story through unique travel experiences.

The Hotel General Manager role aboard American Cruise Lines’ ships is a pivotal leadership position responsible for creating and managing exceptional guest experiences through efficient hotel operations. As the senior hotel officer onboard, the Hotel General Manager oversees every aspect of guest hospitality including customer service, housekeeping, food service, and onboard entertainment. This role demands someone who can supervise a diverse team of restaurant staff, housekeeping personnel, cruise and excursions directors, chefs, and guest service coordinators, ensuring that all company procedures and world-class service standards are consistently upheld.

Serving as the primary representative of American Cruise Lines to guests, the Hotel General Manager plays a critical role in achieving service excellence and superior guest satisfaction. This includes enforcing company policies, maintaining high standards for cleanliness and food quality, providing leadership to the management team, and addressing any issues swiftly to preserve a positive guest atmosphere. The position also involves active involvement during meals, events, and guest interactions, requiring a hands-on approach in maintaining smooth day-to-day hotel operations.

Candidates for this role will find a dynamic work environment at sea where adaptability and dedication are essential. The Hotel General Manager must be prepared for physically demanding work, including long hours and the unique challenges of operating aboard a moving vessel. This full-time, exempt position requires living aboard the ship for extended periods during the cruise seasons, managing the hotel department, and ensuring all crew members deliver outstanding service. Additionally, the role calls for an ability to comply with maritime regulations and pass mandatory drug screenings, as well as holding specific credentials such as the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).

This role offers a competitive daily rate combined with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) plan with company match. American Cruise Lines also provides travel, room and board, uniforms, and training for all onboard staff. With numerous newly constructed vessels joining the fleet, the company presents a unique career opportunity to join a thriving team dedicated to delivering memorable American travel experiences on the water.
