Job Description
Emerson Inn By The Sea is a charming boutique hotel located in the picturesque town of Rockport, Massachusetts. Renowned for its scenic ocean views and warm, inviting atmosphere, this historic coastal inn offers a unique boutique hospitality experience that combines classic charm with modern amenities. Guests at Emerson Inn By The Sea enjoy a memorable stay characterized by personalized service, attention to detail, and a relaxing environment that highlights the natural beauty of the Massachusetts coastline. The establishment prides itself on maintaining a positive hospitality culture focused on delivering polished and exceptional guest experiences.
We are currently seeking a dedicated and dynamic Hotel General Manager to join the team at Emerson Inn By The Sea. This role is especially suited for those passionate about boutique hospitality who thrive in hands-on leadership positions and enjoy leading by example. The General Manager will play a vital role as a visible, service-driven leader with strong operational and financial acumen, overseeing every department of this 35-room historic inn. Key responsibilities include managing daily operations across multiple departments such as Rooms, Food & Beverage, Events, Housekeeping, Human Resources, and Maintenance.
The successful candidate will maintain a strong on-the-floor presence, particularly during peak check-in times and food and beverage service, ensuring that all guest interactions meet the highest standards. Leadership extends to managing the Food & Beverage program, including menu design, pricing strategies, vendor relationships, beverage oversight, and inventory management. The General Manager will also supervise key personnel, such as the Bar Manager and Chef, to ensure cost-of-goods sold (COGS) targets and service excellence are consistently achieved.
In addition to operational oversight, this role requires a hands-on approach to recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, scheduling, and payroll approval. Monitoring guest feedback and leading service recovery initiatives to maintain a polished guest experience is essential. The General Manager is responsible for tracking and managing key performance indicators (KPIs) including Occupancy, Average Daily Rate (ADR), Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR), and labor costs to drive profitability.
Financial stewardship is a critical aspect of the role, with responsibilities including budgeting, purchasing, and cost control measures to maximize the inn's profitability. Working in partnership with the Event Manager, the General Manager will coordinate weddings, retreats, and group events, ensuring seamless execution. Additionally, collaboration with Housekeeping and Maintenance teams is necessary to maintain the pristine condition of the hotel’s historic property.
Emerson Inn By The Sea offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $85,000, along with health insurance reimbursement. The position provides autonomy to influence and shape the hotel culture, define guest experiences, and uphold operational excellence. If you possess a proactive, player-coach leadership style and thrive in a service-driven, organized, and resilient environment, this opportunity at Emerson Inn By The Sea in Rockport is an ideal fit.
