The role of the Engineer II at Boston Marriott Copley Place is integral to the maintenance and upkeep of the hotel’s physical infrastructure. This full-time position plays a crucial role in responding to guest repair requests promptly and effectively, requiring a high level of independence and technical skill. The Engineer II is tasked with performing preventive maintenance on tools and equipment, which includes cleaning, lubrication, and visual inspections to ensure operational reliability and safety. This position demands proficiency in a broad range of engineering disciplines such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical systems, mechanical repairs, plumbing, pneumatic and electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicle maintenance, energy conservation, and general building management.

Part of the daily responsibilities includes using hand and power tools safely, repairing or replacing piping, troubleshooting and addressing common plumbing and electrical issues, programming TVs, and assisting with various engineering-related housekeeping tasks. The role requires familiarity with Lockout/Tagout safety procedures and various engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management. The Engineer II also provides mentorship and training to junior engineers and may undertake Engineer on Duty responsibilities. Job Duties

  • Respond to guest repair requests
  • Communicate with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment including cleaning and lubrication
  • Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines
  • Carry equipment such as tools and radio
  • Identify and operate shut-off valves for equipment and buildings
  • Maintain maintenance inventory and requisition parts and supplies
  • Communicate daily activities and problems to other shifts
  • Display proficiency in air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems, carpentry, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building management
  • Use hand and power tools safely
  • Repair or replace PVC copper pipe including soldering
  • Troubleshoot and perform basic repair on equipment, plumbing, electrical items, and guestroom items
  • Program TVs and perform related housekeeping and engineering duties
  • Assist with surface preparation, painting, drywall, wood trim repair, bulb and filter replacement, and cleanup
  • Use Lockout/Tagout system before maintenance work
  • Utilize engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management
  • Perform mid-level troubleshooting of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems
  • Train and mentor other engineers
  • Perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities including readings and rounds
  • Follow all company safety and security policies
  • Report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries
  • Complete safety training and certifications
  • Properly store flammable materials
  • Maintain professional appearance and confidentiality
  • Welcome and acknowledge guests and address service needs
  • Adhere to quality expectations and standards
  • Develop positive working relationships
  • Speak clearly and professionally
  • Physically move objects weighing up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier lifting
