Job Description
W Scottsdale, located at 7277 E Camelback Rd in Scottsdale, Arizona, is a prominent luxury hotel known for its vibrant atmosphere and exceptional guest services. Part of a globally recognized collection of hotels, W Scottsdale combines stylish design, innovative amenities, and impeccable service to create an unforgettable guest experience. The hotel offers a blend of contemporary luxury and a playful, social vibe that attracts a diverse array of visitors, including business travelers, tourists, and locals seeking an upscale environment. Working at W Scottsdale means being part of a dynamic team dedicated to hospitality excellence and creating memorable moments for every guest.
The role open at W Scottsdale is a full-time, non-management Engineering & Facilities position based at their Scottsdale location. This position offers a critical role in maintaining the hotel’s physical operations, ensuring that all guest facilities and equipment are functioning optimally and meet safety and quality standards. The Maintenance Engineer will respond promptly to guest repair requests, handle preventive maintenance tasks, and troubleshoot a variety of engineering systems including air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and more. This role requires proficiency in the safe use of hand and power tools, the ability to perform mid-level mechanical, electrical, and plumbing system repairs, and experience with general building management techniques.
Additionally, the role involves not just reactive problem-solving but preventive care, such as cleaning and lubricating equipment, inspecting and maintaining tools, and managing inventory and requisition of parts. The Maintenance Engineer will utilize company-approved communication programs to report daily activities and issues across shifts, emphasizing teamwork and effective communication. The position also includes responsibilities such as minor drywall and wood repairs, painting preparation and cleanup, programming guest room technology like TVs, and performing housekeeping-related engineering duties.
Safety is a fundamental aspect of this role, with the expectation to adhere strictly to Lockout/Tagout procedures, company safety policies, and proper storage of flammable materials. The Maintenance Engineer must also engage in required safety training and certifications to maintain compliance with regulatory standards. The role requires physical capabilities such as lifting and moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds independently, with assistance for heavier tasks, and mobility skills including climbing stairs, service ramps, and ladders.
The ideal candidate will bring at least two years of hotel engineering or maintenance experience, with a background in both exterior and interior surface preparation and painting. A high school diploma or equivalent coupled with vocational or technical training is preferred. Additionally, a valid driver’s license and universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification are required, along with any other state and federal licensing pertinent to the role.
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities but does require the ability to train and mentor less experienced engineers. It also entails assuming Engineer on Duty duties when necessary, further highlighting the role’s importance in daily hotel operations. Proven interpersonal skills are essential, as the Maintenance Engineer will interact with guests and team members, providing prompt, courteous service and maintaining the professional appearance and confidentiality standards expected by the hotel.
By joining W Scottsdale as a Maintenance Engineer, the candidate becomes part of a supportive and vibrant team focused on delivering quality, safety, and an exceptional guest experience. This role offers a unique opportunity for those passionate about facility maintenance in the hospitality industry to thrive in a spirited, high-energy environment where their technical skills and customer service abilities are equally valued.
