Job Description
JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa is a premier destination nestled in the scenic beauty of Tucson, Arizona. This luxury resort is known for its exceptional hospitality, extensive amenities including a full-service spa, championship golf courses, gourmet dining, and exquisite event spaces. As part of the globally recognized Marriott International portfolio, JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa upholds the highest standards in customer service and facility excellence. The resort caters to discerning guests seeking both relaxation and adventure, combining comfort with a distinctive southwestern flair in its architecture and service offerings. Maintaining operational excellence is critical at this resort to ensure guests enjoy flawless experiences during their stay.
The role available at this distinguished resort is a full-time, non-management Engineering & Facilities position focused on ensuring efficient and timely maintenance services throughout the property. This position requires a dedicated individual who responds promptly to guest repair requests, communicates effectively with guests and coworkers to resolve issues, and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of tools, systems, and equipment. Expertise is demonstrated through proficiency in several technical categories such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic systems and controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment, and general building management.
The incumbent is responsible for maintaining tools and equipment, including cleaning and lubrication, carrying necessary equipment like radios and hand tools, and understanding the location and operation of all relevant shut-off valves. They are expected to troubleshoot a wide array of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues, conduct minor repairs such as soldering pipes, light bulb and A/C filter replacements, and assist with painting and minor drywall tasks. The role also involves monitoring and using engineering computer programs related to preventative maintenance and energy management.
An important aspect of this position is safety. The engineer must use Lockout/Tagout systems, report hazards and incidents, complete safety trainings, and properly store flammable materials. The role demands physical activity such as moving objects up to 50 pounds, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead. Additionally, the position includes Engineer on Duty responsibilities which involve regular system readings and rounds.
Ideal candidates will have at least a high school diploma or GED equivalent, with vocational or technical training preferred. A minimum of two years of related hotel engineering or maintenance experience is required, particularly experience involving general maintenance, surface preparation, and painting. While no supervisory experience is necessary, the ability to mentor and guide Engineer I staff is beneficial. A valid driver’s license and Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification are mandatory. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a commitment to teamwork, and the ability to uphold Marriott’s quality standards and values.
Working at JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa offers a dynamic environment where professional growth is supported, and the chance to contribute to a leading hospitality brand with a strong reputation. This position is integral to maintaining the high standards of the resort, ensuring the comfort and satisfaction of all guests through expert facility care and maintenance.
