Job Description

The Notary Hotel Philadelphia Autograph Collection is a distinguished hotel located at 21 N Juniper St, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As part of Marriott International's Autograph Collection, this hotel brings a unique and authentic experience to visitors, combining historic charm with modern luxury. Situated in the heart of Philadelphia, The Notary Hotel caters to both business and leisure travelers seeking comfort, elegance, and exceptional service in a premier urban setting. The hotel prides itself on delivering outstanding guest experiences with a dedicated team and high standards of hospitality. The employment opportunity at The Notary Hotel is full-time with a non-management position classification in the Engineering and Facilities department, specifically designed for individuals ready to contribute to maintaining the hotel's infrastructure and guest satisfaction.

This role offers a hybrid schedule with overnight and day shifts, ensuring comprehensive coverage and timely response to guest and operational needs. The position requires applicants to be onsite given the hands-on nature of tasks and the necessity of prompt maintenance interventions. This is a critical role aimed at ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of the hotel's mechanical, electrical, and physical facilities.

The position entails responding promptly to guest repair requests, effectively communicating with guests and customers to resolve maintenance issues, and performing preventive maintenance on tools, kitchen equipment, and mechanical room apparatus. The candidate will carry necessary equipment and tools, locate and operate shut-off valves for equipment and utilities, and maintain inventory control by requisitioning parts and supplies as needed. Daily communication across shifts is vital to guarantee continuity and awareness of issues, using approved company communication methods.

Candidates are expected to have or be willing to acquire knowledge in several technical areas such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical repairs, mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic controls, carpentry, kitchen equipment upkeep, vehicle maintenance, energy conservation, and general building maintenance. Additionally, the role includes surface preparation, painting, drywall and wood trim repair, and ensuring cleanup after any repair work. Troubleshooting and repairing plumbing emergencies, electrical components, programming televisions, and general housekeeping and inventory duties are part of the job.

Health and safety are paramount; candidates must follow Lockout/Tagout procedures, store flammable materials safely, report hazards, and complete necessary safety training and certifications. The maintenance technician will also be involved in landscaping repairs and sprinkler systems, demonstrating a varied scope of responsibilities.

This position requires basic computer skills for tasks such as updating air handler schedules and temperature settings. The company values professionalism, requiring a neat uniform and personal appearance, confidentiality, and protection of company assets. There is strong emphasis on guest service excellence, including welcoming guests, anticipating their needs, assisting individuals with disabilities, and maintaining quality standards.

The hotel encourages teamwork and effective communication, underscoring the importance of positive relationships among employees. Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, move up and down stairs, ramps, and ladders, and perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, and stooping.

Preferred qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, some general maintenance experience particularly in surface preparation and painting, and any hotel engineering or maintenance background is advantageous. Supervisory experience is not required, and possession of a driver's license is mandatory, given the transportation needs involved in the maintenance tasks.

Overall, this maintenance role at The Notary Hotel Philadelphia offers a diverse set of responsibilities within a supportive, professional environment. It presents an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to apply technical, mechanical, and customer service skills in the hospitality industry, contributing directly to the quality and safety of guest experiences while growing their career in a respected hotel brand.
