The role of Director of Event Sales and Service at Grand Hyatt San Antonio is a pivotal leadership position reporting directly to the hotel General Manager. This role plays a crucial part in the hotel’s Leadership Committee and involves high visibility with senior and corporate leadership. The Director is responsible for overseeing the entire Event Sales, Event Planning, and Event Operations departments, including the Banquet and Convention Services teams. This comprehensive role emphasizes the ongoing training and development of staff, ensuring that all events are executed with exceptional quality and meet Hyatt's service standards. The Director drives revenue by achieving individual booking goals and overall property event sales targets, managing budgets, and developing marketing plans to promote the event services. This position requires a deep proficiency in all aspects related to event management, from sales generation and planning to the operational execution of events.
Key responsibilities of this role include short- and long-term strategic planning for the event departments, budget management, and the creation and implementation of effective marketing initiatives to grow catering and event sales revenue. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality, business, or related field preferred
- Minimum 6 years experience in hotel event sales and planning
- At least 3 years in a senior leadership position within event sales or planning
- Proven ability to lead and develop a team
- Strong skills in budget management and event marketing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
- High level of organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse cultural and ethnic groups
Job Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with people of cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- 6 years or more of progressive hotel Event Sales and Planning experience (typically with Hyatt), which should include some exposure to Banquets and Convention Services
- Service oriented style with professional presentation skills
- At least 3 years experience in a senior role in Event Sales/Planning environment
- Hotel/Hospitality degree an asset
- Must possess the following strengths: high energy, entrepreneurial spirit, motivational leader, effective communicator, effective in providing exceptional customer service and ability to improve the bottom line
- Clear concise written and verbal communication skills in English
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must have excellent organizational, interpersonal and administrative skills
- Maintain communications with Corporate Staff
Job Duties
- Responsible for short and long term planning and the management of Event Sales, Event Planning, and Event Operations (Banquets and Convention Services)
- Develop and recommend the budget, marketing plans and objectives and manage within those approved plans
- Maintain or exceed budgeted sales and profits in all event areas
- Develop and implement effective marketing plans for generating catering revenues
- Experience evaluating each piece of event business to ensure business can be properly serviced
- Monitor sales performance of Event Sales Managers
- Ability to put together creative and innovative menus based on skills of the kitchen
- Work closely with Chef on pricing specialty menus
- Train, supervise and work with event staff, in order to solicit and book banquet and event functions, as well as the planning, merchandising and execution of the functions
- Work closely with Event Services Manager and their team to create and ensure quality levels are being met on a daily basis as well as enhancing overall banquet set-ups
- Leads event team to build long-term, value-based customer relationships that enable achievement of hotel Event sales objectives
- Administer all phases of the event department, including but not limited to sales, planning, marketing, servicing and administrative procedures
- Coach and counsel employees to reflect Hyatt service standards and procedures
