Job Description

Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital is a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that has been serving the Seminole County community for over 40 years. As a part of the Orlando Health system, the hospital represents a significant commitment to providing high-quality medical care in the area. This comprehensive acute care hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical services, including cardiovascular care, general surgery, orthopedics, and women’s services such as labor and delivery. The facility is robustly equipped to handle complex cases with features like six private labor and delivery suites that provide comfort and advanced technology to patients, including hydrotherapy tubs, wireless heart rate monitors, and smart boards integrating patient and nurse information. The hospital currently offers 124 beds and is designed to expand up to 240 beds in the future, ensuring that it can meet growing healthcare demands. Other modern amenities include multiple operating rooms, catheterization labs, interventional radiology labs, vascular labs, intensive care units, and a full-service emergency department, making it a comprehensive center for medical excellence in the region.

The Hot Prep Cook position at Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital within the LMH Food & Nutrition department is a variable full-time role ideal for individuals passionate about food preparation and service in a healthcare setting. This role requires flexibility in scheduling and the willingness to work until midnight during second shift assignments. The primary responsibility of the Hot Prep Cook is to prepare all hot food items for both patient and non-patient food services, strictly following established production plans and recipes provided by the Executive Chef, Food & Nutrition Supervisor, or Production Leader. The position involves a variety of tasks including assisting in tray assembly, preparing special diet meals such as pureed or supplemented diets, and ensuring proper food sanitation and safety practices are followed in line with HAACP guidelines. This role calls for a team-oriented mindset with a willingness to assist in different kitchen areas when needed, including cold prep, bakery, storeroom, café serving line, dish room, or tray line.

The ideal candidate will have at least six months of food production experience, preferably from a fast food or kitchen production environment with restaurant experience considered an advantage. Effective communication skills are essential for coordinating with kitchen leadership and other food service team members, ensuring proper meal preparation and maintaining compliance with department and hospital policies. Attendance and punctuality are crucial in supporting the smooth operation of food services within the hospital, as is a commitment to quality assurance and infection control procedures. This position offers opportunities to be part of a recognized “Best Place to Work” for five consecutive years, with benefits beginning on day one for eligible employees, flexible schedules, and tuition reimbursement programs that support professional development. Joining Orlando Health Lake Mary Hospital as a Hot Prep Cook means contributing to a vital area that directly impacts patient satisfaction and healthcare outcomes through nutritious and well-prepared meals.
