Job Description

New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. (NESL) is a leading Pennsylvania-based construction materials company specializing in supplying essential raw materials and products for heavy highway construction. Established in 1924, NESL has developed a rich heritage over nearly a century, growing into the state's largest producer and supplier of construction materials. With a workforce of over 1,800 employees, NESL operates 57 quarries, three sand deposits, 33 hot mix asphalt (HMA) plants, 21 ready mix concrete plants (both fixed and portable), and one lime distribution center across Pennsylvania and Western New York. As a family-owned, privately held business, NESL values community, growth, and sustainable infrastructure development while embracing a people-driven culture dedicated to excellence and innovation. The company prides itself on its role in "Building America From the Ground Up," contributing to the improvement and rebuilding of vital infrastructure that serves communities and businesses alike.

The Hot Mixed Asphalt Apprentice position at NESL supports the operations of the Barton Road HMA Plant, an integral component of their asphalt manufacturing and supply chain. This full-time role, requiring over 30 hours per week, offers a competitive starting hourly rate of $31.85 with the opportunity to progress to $36.46 per hour. You will benefit from a dynamic work schedule that adjusts according to production demands, often requiring significant overtime during peak seasons.

NESL commits to on-the-job training and development, offering an apprenticeship pathway that could lead to full-time plant operator positions in accordance with union agreements. Employees in this role will gain valuable mechanical skills and industry expertise while working in various weather conditions, including exposure to high heat at the HMA plant. NESL values strong work ethics, a willingness to learn, and teamwork-oriented individuals who thrive in a fast-paced outdoor environment. In addition to competitive wages, NESL offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision coverage, 401(k), vacation, and life insurance, among other perks. As a company, NESL promotes career growth, internal development, and stable employment within a resilient industry with sustained demand.

Working at NESL means joining a mission-driven company committed to sustainability and community impact. Employees contribute directly to infrastructure projects that improve the daily lives of people and communities served. NESL fosters an open, inclusive, and collaborative culture rooted in sound values and family-oriented practices, allowing employees to thrive both professionally and personally. The company is an equal opportunity employer dedicated to diversity and inclusion, ensuring fair treatment throughout its hiring processes. NESL maintains a drug-free workplace and requires background screenings, underscoring its commitment to a safe, professional environment. For those seeking a career with purpose, growth opportunities, and meaningful work in construction materials manufacturing, the Hot Mixed Asphalt Apprentice role presents an ideal chance to build a solid foundation within a leading, expanding organization.
