Job Description
Out West Restaurant Group is the largest franchisee of Outback Steakhouse in the United States, operating a network of Australian-themed dining establishments known for their unique blend of serious food craftsmanship and fun, vibrant culture. Outback Steakhouse was founded in March 1988 and has since cultivated a reputation for delivering a warm, welcoming environment coupled with high-quality food and exceptional service. The company deeply values its team members, affectionately called Outbackers, and believes in fostering a culture of respect, camaraderie, and enthusiasm. This approach inspires employees to deliver memorable dining experiences that make guests feel like they are welcomed into a friend’s home. Out West Restaurant Group has earned notable recognitions such as the Monitor 200 Award, ranking in the top 50 franchisees in the U.S. for four consecutive years, and the International Franchise Association’s Franchisee of the Year Award in 2022, reflecting their excellence in local community service and dedication to corporate responsibility. They also actively contribute to non-profit organizations like California Care and CORE, supporting restaurant employees and their families during difficult times.
This position is an hourly, non-exempt role offering a competitive base wage of $16.90 per hour plus tips. It provides a unique opportunity for individuals seeking a fun and rewarding environment to begin or further their careers in hospitality. The role is positioned as an entry-level Servers Assistant, responsible for contributing to the guest experience by supporting servers and the entire dining team through a variety of customer service functions. Successful candidates will be part of a dynamic team, engaging directly with customers to create AUS-SOME dining experiences through genuine hospitality, attention to detail, and teamwork.
As a Servers Assistant at Outback Steakhouse, you will be the face of the restaurant in the lobby and dining areas, making memorable first and last impressions on guests with a welcoming smile and helpful attitude. Your duties will include greeting and seating guests in the dining and bar areas, managing waitlists with a sense of urgency, and ensuring smooth transitions between host and server teams. Supporting the dining room team by busing tables, clearing and resetting dining spaces, delivering food and beverages to tables, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards will also be critical. You will need to have a working knowledge of the menu to engage with guests effectively and provide product recommendations and upsells.
The role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent standing, walking, and physical activities such as bending and lifting up to 30 pounds. Candidates must be able to operate efficiently in both hot and cold conditions and comply with all food safety, sanitation, and job safety policies. Phone handling and call direction are part of the responsibilities, emphasizing excellent communication skills. The company emphasizes teamwork, and supporting all areas of the restaurant as business needs arise is essential for success.
Out West Restaurant Group is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and maintains an equal opportunity employment policy considered fair and respectful to all employees regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected status. The group supports employee growth and advancement, offering training programs including a Shift Leader program with extensive on-the-job training and career pathway opportunities. The company also complies fully with California employment laws, including equal pay standards, meal and rest break rules, and accommodation rights, ensuring a supportive workplace environment.
