Job Description
This position is for a Host/Hostess role within a reputable dining establishment known for its commitment to excellent guest service and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere. The company prides itself on delivering a memorable dining experience to every guest, emphasizing professionalism, cleanliness, and attentiveness throughout the service. As a key frontline representative, the host or hostess plays a critical role in setting the stage for the dining experience by being the first point of contact for guests.
The role involves greeting guests warmly upon arrival, determining the size of their party, and escorting them to their table with efficiency and courtesy. The host or hostess is responsible for ensuring that all seating areas are clean, well-arranged, and prepared to meet guests' needs, including those with special accommodations. Attention to detail is paramount in this position, including tasks like pulling out chairs, placing clean and current menus in front of guests, and confirming place settings are complete with napkins, clean silverware, and any other standard dining necessities. Menu quality is maintained by regularly checking to ensure menus are clean, plentiful, and wrinkle-free.
In addition to managing the seating and initial guest interactions, this role requires maintaining cleanliness in the host area and throughout the dining spaces, consistently following clean-as-you-go procedures. The host or hostess also monitors dining room activity, including seating availability, guest service, safety, and overall guest well-being. Strict adherence to company policies and safety standards is required at all times, including the reporting of any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to management and completing any mandated safety training and certifications.
Professional appearance and conduct are vital in this role. Employees are expected to maintain a clean and professional uniform and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information while protecting company assets. Communication skills are essential since the host or hostess must welcome guests with enthusiasm and professionalism, answer telephones with appropriate etiquette, and communicate clearly and courteously with guests, staff, and management.
The role's physical demands include the ability to stand, sit, or walk for extended periods and handle light objects up to 10 pounds without assistance. Flexibility is necessary as the host or hostess may be asked to perform other reasonable job duties upon request by supervisors. The position is fitting for individuals who enjoy teamwork, have a positive attitude, and are dedicated to supporting the overall goals of the restaurant team.
No previous experience is required for this entry-level position, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals starting their career in hospitality or customer service. While not mandatory, a high school diploma or GED equivalent is considered a nice-to-have. This role offers a chance to develop valuable skills in guest relations, teamwork, and multitasking in a dynamic and customer-focused environment.
