The Host/Hostess position at Bethesda Senior Living Communities is a pivotal role that requires someone with excellent interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for serving elderly residents and their families. Whether working full-time or part-time, shifts may include morning, evening, and weekends to accommodate the dynamic scheduling needs of the community. The role involves overseeing meal services, ensuring that dining experiences meet the highest standards of professionalism and warmth. You will be responsible for ensuring that the dining areas are clean, attractively arranged, and welcoming at all times. This role also involves assisting with dishwashing tasks and coordinating the activities of Health Services staff during meal times to ensure residents receive prompt and courteous service.
Functioning under the guidance of the Culinary Services Director, Health Services Director, and Executive Director, the Host/Hostess will facilitate communication and coordination amongst teams to guarantee that resident needs and preferences are met during meal service. The role demands the ability to manage meal orders, oversee the preparation and resetting of tables, maintain the cleanliness of dining spaces, and handle guest reservations for private dining. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining confidentiality and upholding residents' rights while fostering a positive and professional atmosphere. This position requires an individual capable of balancing leadership responsibilities, customer service excellence, and hands-on operational duties, all while contributing to a nurturing and community-oriented dining experience.

Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with food production, service, sanitation, and safety
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Good organizational and leadership skills
- Availability for day, evening, and weekend shifts
- Ability to handle moderate physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting with lifting over 100 pounds
- Ability to manage stress constructively
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Willingness to follow community policies and procedures
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience with food production and service, sanitation, and safety
- Previous supervisory experience is a plus
- Demonstrates servant heart and caring attitude
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational, motivational, and leadership skills
- Ability to work in stressful situations with residents, families, and staff
- Knowledge of SDS sheets and hazardous material guidelines

Job Duties
- Ensures adequate daily coverage provided by Health Services staff for meal service by communicating with leadership
- Assists Culinary Services Director with training Health Services staff on food service policies and procedures
- Attends staff meetings as required
- Directs resident, family, and guest feedback to community leadership
- Ensures completion of all pre-service and post-service work by Health Services staff
- Assigns sections and tables to Health Services staff for timely service
- Oversees cleaning and preparation of dining room and tables to meet restaurant style standards
- Resets tables with linens and condiments
- Ensures drink station and salad bar are set according to policies
- Takes meal orders and coaches staff to use excellent customer service skills
- Ensures drinks are refilled according to guest requests
- Manages guest reservations and private dining room setup
- Ensures completion of all cleaning responsibilities and checklists
- Sets up and delivers room trays as needed
- Maintains confidentiality of resident information
- Maintains professional appearance and positive demeanor to create nurturing environment
- Practices honesty and integrity in all aspects of performance
- Performs other duties as assigned
