The role of Host/Hostess is a crucial position at the Jalapeno Tree, serving as the first point of contact for guests when they arrive. This role involves warmly greeting guests, managing seating arrangements, and coordinating the waitlist to ensure an efficient and pleasant dining experience. The Host/Hostess plays a key role in maintaining the flow of the dining room, communicating wait times accurately, and supporting the restaurant team by handling to-go and curbside orders. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to work in a fast-paced environment. Duties include managing the seating chart alongside servers and bussers to optimize table turnover while minimizing wait times, addressing guest inquiries, and handling any concerns with professionalism and empathy. Additionally, the Host/Hostess is responsible for keeping the entrance and waiting areas tidy and welcoming, helping create a positive first impression that sets the tone for the guest's entire visit. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Basic mathematic skills and ability to handle cash and operate a POS system accurately
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food safety, and kitchen equipment
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Texas Food Handlers Certification
- TABC certification for serving alcohol if 18 years of age
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, move at a rapid pace, bend, twist, and lift products weighing up to 35 pounds
Job Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Basic mathematic skills and ability to handle cash and operate a POS system accurately

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays

- TABC certification for serving alcohol if 18 years of age
- Previous experience as a host/hostess or in a customer service role preferred but not required
- Working knowledge of point-of-sale systems preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Job Duties
- Warmly welcome guests as they arrive, creating a positive first impression
- Escort guests to their tables and provide menus
- Answer incoming phone calls, take and fill to-go and curbside orders, clean, organize and stock menus, and perform other assigned side work
- Track table status and manage the seating chart to ensure efficient and balanced table assignments
- Coordinate with servers and bussers to optimize table turnover and minimize wait times
- Take names and phone numbers for the waiting list and quote accurate wait times to guests when tables are not immediately available
- Clearly communicate wait times and manage guest expectations, providing updates as needed
- Address guest inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally
- Maintain a clean and organized host/hostess station and waiting area
- Collaborate with servers and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations, relaying special requests or issues
- Handle guest complaints or issues with empathy and efficiency, escalating to management if necessary
