The Host position plays a critical role in shaping the customer experience from the moment patrons arrive until they are comfortably seated and attended to. In this role, the Host acts as the first point of contact for guests, responsible for warmly greeting and seating customers, verifying party sizes, and accommodating special guest needs such as high chairs or special menus. The Host ensures the seating process runs smoothly and aligns with the restaurant's operational flow and standards.

Additionally, the Host manages payment collections in accordance with established cash handling policies, thereby contributing to the accuracy of financial reconciliation at the end of each shift. The role also includes managing the hostess area by keeping it organized and stocked with necessary materials like clean menus and to-go products. Effective communication skills are crucial as the Host handles incoming telephone calls, takes to-go orders, and addresses customer inquiries or complaints promptly.

Supporting service personnel by assisting in setting and cleaning tables and offering beverage refills enhances teamwork and overall dining service quality. The Host must consistently uphold company standards for guest interaction by providing suggestions such as features of the day and initial beverage offerings. They are accountable for maintaining a welcoming ambiance and ensuring guests feel valued and attended to throughout their visit.

Job Duties

  • Greets and welcomes all customers immediately upon arrival and verifies number in their party
  • Collects payment from customers immediately, in accordance with established cash handling procedures, inquires about food/service satisfaction and handles customer complaints/suggestions appropriately
  • Seats customers at tables/booths appropriate for their needs and those of the restaurant, and introduces feature of the day
  • Keeps hostess area stocked and clean, e.g., to-go items and bakery products
  • Handles incoming telephone calls immediately, and takes to go orders as appropriate
  • Maintains proper supply of clean menus
  • Periodically supplies customers with initial beverage suggestions and provides beverages order and refills
  • Assists service personnel in cleaning and setting tables
  • Resolves complaints as he/she becomes aware of them, notifying the manager of any complaints received
  • Assists other service personnel as needed
