Originally opened as a lavish hotel that attracted world-renowned celebrities, it has undergone extensive renovations to restore its original grandeur and charm. Today, the Fairmont Breakers stands out as Long Beach's sole luxury hotel, delivering an incomparable hospitality experience through its boutique rooms, exquisite dining options, and exceptional amenities. The role of the host or hostess at Fairmont Breakers is pivotal in creating memorable dining experiences that reflect the hotel's commitment to excellence and guest satisfaction. This position involves being the first point of contact for arriving and departing guests, greeting them with professional, friendly, and engaging hospitality. The host or hostess is responsible for handling restaurant reservations meticulously through the Open Table system, seating guests accurately, and effectively communicating with servers, bartenders, and management to ensure seamless service throughout the dining experience. Attention to detail, clear communication, and a warm disposition are essential for tailoring each guest’s experience to their needs. This role also requires familiarity with all menu items and property services to provide knowledgeable assistance and recommendations.

Beyond greeting and seating, hosts contribute to maintaining the restaurant’s cleanliness and setup, may assist with inventory and requisitions, and serve as ambassadors of the hotel’s brand and heritage. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in hospitality or customer service preferred
  • Ability to use reservation software such as Open Table
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations

Job Duties

  • Uphold the Fairmont Breakers values and mission statement while performing positional responsibilities
  • Adhere to company policy and procedures as stated in the company handbook
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Interact with arriving and departing guests
  • Answer the phone using company standards and etiquette
  • Take, record, and confirm with accuracy restaurant reservations in accordance with the reservation guidelines
  • Use the Open Table system to input bookings and track guest progress throughout the meal service periods
  • Use clear and concise communication with assistants, servers, bartenders and managers regarding guests' needs
  • Escort guests to appropriate tables in the dining room
  • Act as point of contact between guests and leadership
  • Engage and interact with guests to create a friendly, attentive, and memorable dining experience
  • Tailor guest experience
  • Be familiar with all menu items and services of the property
  • Assist in cleaning, clearing and setting tables
  • Maintain cleanliness of the restaurant
  • Be familiar with all food outlets and amenities within the property
  • May assist with inventory and requisition forms
  • Be knowledgeable of general city information as well as hotel history
  • Be an ambassador for the department, the property and the brand
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned
