Job Description
Texas Health Stephenville has been a cornerstone of healthcare in Erath County and its surrounding communities since 1926. As a full-service hospital with 98 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including surgical procedures, women’s and infant care, advanced diagnostic imaging, wound care, and cardiac rehabilitation. The hospital is recognized with numerous distinctions such as the Pathway to Excellence designation, certification as a Level IV Trauma Center, a Level III Stroke Support facility, and Joint Commission Disease-Specific Certification for Chest Pain Management. Located in Stephenville, Texas, a town heralded as one of the 100 Best Small Towns in America, the hospital blends small-town charm with the convenience of being just an hour from Fort Worth. This strategic location and broad range of services make it a vital health resource for residents seeking quality medical care close to home.
The role of Host/Hostess in the Food and Nutrition department at Texas Health Stephenville offers a unique and rewarding opportunity for individuals passionate about customer service and food safety in a healthcare setting. This part-time position features rotating schedules, including weekday afternoons and every other weekend shifts, fostering a balanced work-life dynamic. The Food and Nutrition department is a fast-paced, high-volume environment that thrives on teamwork and effective leadership. Staff members here are encouraged to engage actively in committees and councils that focus on enhancing the patient and customer experience, offering opportunities for professional growth and development.
As a Host/Hostess, the successful candidate will be integral to the patient care journey, responsible for serving meals, assisting with set up, and preparing snacks in accordance with established procedures. Ensuring timely delivery and retrieval of food trays is crucial, as is confirming patient satisfaction to promote positive clinical outcomes. Adherence to hand hygiene, patient identification protocols, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements underscores the commitment to safety and compliance in this healthcare environment. Basic diet therapy knowledge is essential, as the role includes assisting patients in selecting the correct menu items to support their nutritional needs.
Maintaining food safety standards consistent with HACCP and departmental guidelines is a fundamental duty. The position also demands meticulous attention to cleaning and organizing work areas to comply with health department mandates. Managing floor stock using FIFO (First In, First Out) inventory principles, conducting regular checks for expired or prohibited items, and logging refrigerator and freezer temperatures on nursing units are key components that ensure the highest standards of food safety and quality control.
Beyond operational responsibilities, this role requires exceptional customer service skills, including the ability to handle complaints, concerns, and questions using AIDET communication principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You). This focus on exceptional service not only enhances the patient experience but also contributes to the hospital's reputation for excellence.
Working at Texas Health comes with a host of benefits, including access to a 401(k) plan, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and a supportive, inclusive workplace culture that prioritizes people first. Texas Health Stephenville fosters an environment where employees can thrive personally and professionally, backed by an active leadership team that champions collaboration and continuous improvement. If you are seeking a meaningful role in healthcare where you can make a difference every day while developing your career, the Host/Hostess position at Texas Health Stephenville is an excellent opportunity to join a respected institution where people truly matter and where teamwork drives success.
