Offering lunch and dinner daily, with weekend brunch services on Saturdays and Sundays, Summer House on the Lake carefully crafts a menu that combines wholesome flavors with the relaxed sophistication of California cuisine. The establishment features three outdoor patios, including an inviting area overlooking the lake, an in-house bakery counter called The Cookie Bar renowned for its signature cookies and baked goods, and an extensive selection of wines alongside handcrafted cocktails. This unique blend of offerings delivers a dynamic dining experience that caters to various occasions, from romantic date nights and family gatherings to casual brunches with friends. We are currently seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our team as Hosts. The Host role is vital in shaping the first impression and overall guest experience at Summer House on the Lake. Hosts will be the warm and friendly face greeting guests upon their arrival, ensuring they are seated promptly and comfortably. This role involves managing reservations, answering telephones, and maintaining accurate guest counts and wait times to facilitate smooth restaurant operations. Additionally, Hosts will assist with coat check duties as directed. We prioritize a high standard of customer service, effective communication, and multitasking skills to ensure every visit exceeds guest expectations. As a Host, you will be working in a dynamic environment that requires standing and moving throughout your shift, handling customer inquiries with tact and professionalism, and maintaining a clean and organized reception and waiting area. Job Requirements
- Ability to communicate in English to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
- Ability to stand and walk for entire shifts
- Ability to move and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Willingness to work flexible hours including weekends
- Ability to multitask calmly and effectively
- Must comply with safety and sanitation guidelines
- Successful completion of alcohol awareness training
- Must follow all employment rules and policies
- Ability to work in confined, crowded spaces with variable noise and temperature levels
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in a customer service role is advantageous
- Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and calmly
- Familiarity with restaurant reservation and telephone systems is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Basic knowledge of safety and sanitation standards
- Ability to follow directions and comply with company policies
- Customer-oriented mindset with a friendly and approachable demeanor
Job Duties
- Warmly greet and seat guests in the restaurant
- Answer telephones and take orders, messages and reservations
- Available to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends
- Safely and effectively move chairs, tables, highchairs and booster seats
- Safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment
- Ability to communicate in English in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
- Multitask calmly and effectively
- Work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
- Able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and or lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces
- Ensure the overall guest experience exceeds expectations and anticipate guests' needs
- Greet guests with a warm, sincere smile
- Use tact and good judgement when dealing with guest challenges and respond to guest needs with patience and courtesy
- Assist with clearing, cleaning and resetting tables and maintain restrooms
- Sell and accurately account for gift cards
- Use proper phone and voicemail etiquette and guidelines
- Understand and respond knowledgeably to questions about the restaurant and menu
- Follow all steps of service
- Understand and follow the food allergy procedure and special orders/restrictions
- Proficiency in the use and operation of all necessary tools and equipment, including the reservation, telephone, paging and voicemail systems
- Comply with all safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
- Successfully complete alcohol awareness training
- Follow all rules, policies, procedures and conditions of employment, including those outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Get along well with others and be a team player
- Other duties will be assigned as needed
