Job Description

The hosting position is a vital role within any restaurant, responsible for providing an exceptional first impression to guests upon their arrival. This role is typically found in full-service dining establishments, casual eateries, or upscale restaurants where customer service and efficient seating management are essential to the overall dining experience. Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods and walk around the dining area
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15-20 lbs such as menus or guest coats
  • Ability to work in a busy, sometimes noisy, and high-energy environment
  • May work both indoor and outdoor
  • Willingness to work shifts that include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Must demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently and maintain a calm demeanor in a fast-paced environment

Job Qualifications

  • Some high school, high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Hospitality or customer service training is a plus
  • Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred
  • Familiarity with reservation and waitlist management systems is a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational abilities and time management skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Friendly and approachable with a focus on delivering great customer service

Job Duties

  • Greet guests warmly and promptly upon arrival
  • Seat guests based on availability, party size, and special requests ensuring smooth seating flow
  • Manage reservations including confirming details and updating systems
  • Maintain and communicate waitlist and estimated wait times to guests
  • Notify servers and managers when tables are ready for quick seating
  • Provide guests with information about the restaurant, menu details, and wait times
  • Answer phone calls and assist with reservation inquiries or general questions
  • Address guest concerns or complaints, escalating to management if necessary
  • Maintain an organized and clean host stand including reservation logs and menus
  • Coordinate with kitchen and server teams to manage seating arrangements during busy times
  • Ensure effective communication with servers for prompt guest attendance
  • Ensure a positive first impression and welcoming atmosphere
  • Assist guests with coat checks or directions
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations
  • Help set up for events or assist with seating during peak periods
  • Ensure cleanliness and presentability of front-of-house areas
  • Keep track of guest flow to minimize wait times and improve seating processes
