Job Description

The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery (OMB) is a renowned craft brewery based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Since its founding in 2009, OMB has established itself as one of Charlotte’s premier destinations for beer lovers and aficionados. It prides itself on brewing beers following the historic German Purity Law, Reinheitsgebot, which ensures that beers are made only with water, barley, hops, and yeast—setting a standard for authenticity and quality that appeals to traditional and modern beer enthusiasts alike. OMB is more than a brewery; it is a cultural hub that celebrates German brewing traditions while fostering community engagement in Charlotte. The original location in the Lower South End (LoSo) neighborhood features a cutting-edge production facility, a full-service restaurant, and a spacious one-acre biergarten. This vibrant venue is known for its lively but family-friendly atmosphere and hosts numerous events and festivals that bring together locals and visitors.

In 2024, OMB expanded its footprint by launching a second location in the Ballantyne neighborhood of South Charlotte. This new site features a 14,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant and biergarten designed to accommodate more guests and enhance the experience of enjoying OMB’s craft beers. With this expansion, OMB continues to demonstrate its commitment to excellence, community involvement, and leadership in Charlotte’s craft beer movement.

The role of Host at OMB Ballantyne is a vital position that ensures every guest has a welcoming and memorable experience from the moment they arrive. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Host acts as the first point of contact, setting the tone for an exceptional visit. The Host will be responsible for greeting guests warmly, managing the flow and seating in the restaurant for optimal table turnover, and maintaining communication with guests regarding wait times and other needs. This position also involves handling reservations, assisting with takeout and merchandise orders, and promoting OMB’s ongoing events and loyalty programs.

This role requires a positive and friendly attitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage stressful or busy situations with composure and professionalism. The Host works closely with the management, culinary, and service teams to provide a smooth and enjoyable dining experience. With hourly compensation starting at $15, the role also offers benefits such as a 401k plan with company match, employee discounts on food, merchandise, and beer, and opportunities for growth within the company. Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in customer service or hospitality preferred

Job Duties

  • Welcome guests upon arrival
  • Maintain a positive and friendly attitude to create a welcoming atmosphere
  • Manage the seating chart to ensure an efficient flow of guests and optimal table turnover
  • Keep track of guest wait list and assign tables as they become open
  • Communicate wait times and delays to guests
  • Assist guests with takeout orders, beer-to-go orders, and merchandise orders
  • Answer phone calls and inquiries regarding hours and service
  • Record and manage reservations for larger groups to maximize seating capacity
  • Communicate effectively with management, culinary team, and server to ensure a smooth dining experience
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Assist guests with special requests or accommodations
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of host stand, menus, and dining area
  • Familiarize yourself with OMB’s menu and make recommendations
  • Promote ongoing promotions, events, or loyalty programs to guests
