Denny's is a renowned American diner chain, established in 1953, known for serving quality food and generous portions at an affordable price. With a rich heritage and a steadfast commitment to welcoming guests from all walks of life, Denny's has become a beloved staple in the restaurant industry, operating 24/7 to offer dining options that cater to diverse tastes, appetites, and budgets. The restaurant prides itself on upholding its guiding principles which centralize guests as the core focus, embracing openness, honoring its heritage, fostering a drive to excel, and valuing the collaborative spirit of its team members. At Denny's, teamwork, accountability, and innovation are key to continued success, and employees are empowered to thrive in a supportive and dynamic environment that celebrates achievement and encourages growth.
The Host/Hostess role at Denny's is integral to providing an exceptional dining experience by warmly welcoming guests, managing seating logistics, and ensuring guest satisfaction throughout their visit. Reporting directly to the General Manager and Restaurant Manager, the Host/Hostess serves as the initial point of contact for guests, greeting them with friendliness and courtesy upon arrival and departure. The position demands a strong sense of urgency to meet service timing standards and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently, including seating guests at clean tables following proper rotation, managing waiting lists, and attending to specific needs or special requests. The Host/Hostess also takes initial beverage orders, describes ongoing promotions, and assists in suggestive selling to boost guest experience.
In addition to guest interaction, the Host/Hostess plays a vital role in supporting service personnel by assisting with beverage orders and refills, clearing and setting tables, and maintaining a clean and organized foyer area to create an inviting atmosphere. They must possess knowledge of menu items and demonstrate safe cash handling procedures, accurately processing payments via cash, credit, or discounts while adhering to company policy. This position involves dealing with potentially hazardous materials and requires physical stamina for standing, walking, lifting, and carrying supplies up to 30 pounds.
Denny's sets high standards for its employees, with the Host/Hostess expected to uphold company policies, maintain uniform and grooming standards, and communicate effectively in English. The role necessitates flexibility to work various shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends. Strong guest service skills, dependability, and the ability to work well within a team environment are essential qualities for success. The Host/Hostess must also be proactive, willing to assist colleagues without prompt, and maintain a positive, courteous demeanor toward guests and staff alike.
Pay for the Host/Hostess position ranges from $16.50 to $17.00 hourly, depending on location and experience, reflecting the company’s recognition of the essential role front-line employees play in delivering excellent customer service. This job offers an engaging work environment where employees can develop their skills, advance their careers, and contribute to a brand that values heritage, innovation, and the power of teamwork.
